-SPIKES HEAD TO WILLIAMSPORT FOR SECOND GAME: The State College Spikes, on the heels of their first-ever New York-Penn League championship, seek to become the first team since the Staten Island Yankees of 2005-06 to successfully defend its NYPL crown as the club's 10th Season continues with the first road game of the summer. The Spikes take on their SawBuck Series rivals, the Williamsport Crosscutters, in the second game of a three-game set between the two teams. State College has opened the season against Williamsport in nine of the franchise's 10 seasons, and the Crosscutters provided the opposition for the first game in Medlar Field at Lubrano Park history on June 20, 2006. The Spikes are 56-53 all-time against Williamsport, and won the 2014 SawBuck Series by going 10-2 against the Crosscutters, the most lopsided season-ending result between the two teams since the rivalry's inception in 2006.

-LAST GAME: A near-record sellout crowd of 5,921 fans, the second-largest in State College Spikes history, flocked to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park for Opening Night 2015 as the Spikes dropped a 3-2 decision to the Williamsport Crosscutters on Friday night. State College took the lead in the first inning with a Brian O'Keefe sacrifice fly and Casey Grayson's RBI single, but Williamsport came back with a run in the second and gained the advantage for good with a Jan Hernandez RBI single and Venn Biter ground-rule double in the third. Thomas Spitz produced a triple for the Spikes, and gave State College a chance to win in the ninth with a single and steal of second. However, on the game's last play, Spitz was thrown out at third on a close call trying to advance on a wild pitch. Ian McKinney took the loss despite going seven innings in a quality start.

-RODRIGUEZ HEADS TO HILL FOR SPIKES: Right-hander Jorge Rodriguez gets the ball tonight for State College on the road. Rodriguez signed with the Cardinals as an international free agent out of the Dominican Republic in 2012, and pitched his debut season in America with the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League Cardinals. The righty led league the GCL with two complete games and was one of only two pitchers to post a shutout (tossing 5 2/3 innings in rain-shortened game) in 2014 season. Rodriguez did not allow a run over his first 15 innings with the GCL Cards after pitching the 2012 and 2013 seasons for the Dominican Summer League Cardinals.

-WILLIAMSPORT SENDS KILOME TO MOUND TONIGHT: Right-hander Franklyn Kilome will make the start for the Crosscutters in their home opener this evening. Kilome, a native of La Romana in the Dominican Republic, was signed by the Phillies in 2013, and debuted with the Gulf Coast League Phillies last year. The righty went 3-1 with a 3.12 ERA, and excelled when pitching at home with a 1.59 ERA over four starts. Kilome allowed opposing hitters just a .195 batting average with runners in scoring position.

-THAT CHAMPIONSHIP FEELING: Nine players who appeared for the Spikes during last year's championship season return to the club at the dawn of the 2015 season. Tonight's starting pitcher, Ian McKinney, is joined by fellow returning hurlers Tyler Bray, Dailyn Martinez and Kender Villegas on the Opening Day staff. The Spikes also welcome back catcher Brian O'Keefe, infielders Ronnierd Garcia and Leobaldo PIna, and outfielders Jhohan Acevedo and Kenny Peoples-Walls from the 2014 squad. Meanwhile, manager Johnny Rodriguez leads a group of seven players who played for the 2014 Johnson City club, including McKinney, Martinez and infielders Casey Grayson and Cole Lankford, among others

-SPIKE MARKS: 2015 marks the first season that the Spikes and Crosscutters are not each other's most frequent opponent on the schedule, as their 11 meetings trail the 12 times each club meets two other teams in the NYPL Pinckney Division...Last night's crowd trailed only the 6,066 fans at the regular season home finale on August 30, 2014 for the largest crowd in franchise history...The Spikes also welcomed 5,801 fans to last year's Home Opener, the largest crowd in ballpark history to that point...Five of the Crosscutters' eight hits last night were doubles...The Spikes were 31-9 last year when scoring first, which they also did in last night's defeat
