BROOKLYN, NY - June 20, 2015 -- In front of an electric crowd of 7,795 fanatical Brooklyn spectators on Opening Day at MCU Park, the Cyclones fell to the Staten Island Yankees 8-3, to fall to 12-3 all-time in Home Openers.

After a scoreless first inning for both teams, Staten Island's outfielder Jhalan Jackson got the scoring started for the second straight night, with a two-run home run off right-hander Gaby Almonte to put the Yankees in front. Jackson was also responsible for the two-run homer in the first game of the series on Friday, the only runs the Yanks posted on Opening Day.

The Cyclones responded quickly, slicing into the two-run deficit when outfielder Michael Bernal hit a double, moved to third on a ground out by Oswald Caraballo , and was then brought home on a wild pitch from Yankees starter Luis Cedeno.

The third inning, however, proved to be the turning point for the Cyclones. Almonte struggled on the mound, as seven consecutive batters reached base to start the inning for the Baby Bombers. When it was all said and done, the Yankees had taken a commanding 8-1 lead.

The Brooklyn bats made their best effort to follow the Yankees' offensive rally in the bottom of the frame. After singling to center field, Enmanuel Zabala was brought home by a pair of singles from Vinny Siena and Michael Katz. That would be the only action the Brooklyn scoreboard saw until the fifth inning, as the teams matched zeroes in the fourth.

Zabala managed to get the Cyclones on the board again in the fifth after singling to right-center field, advancing to second on a fielding error by Jeff Hendrix, and stealing his way home on a pair of wild pitches by Cedeno. Zabala's cleats were the last pair to step onto home plate for Brooklyn for the rest of the game.

When southpaw Ruben Reyes was brought in for the sixth, it looked like it would be a long after he walked his first two batters. Reyes, however, successfully held off Long Island for the remainder of the inning. Right-hander Christian Montgomery then kept the Yankees at bay as well when he came in for Reyes during the seventh.

From the bullpen, Craig Missigman finished out the game for Brooklyn. During a stressful eighth inning with the bases loaded and one out, Missigman remained steadfast and didn't give up a single run to the Yankees during the final two innings pitched.

Though there seemed to be a sliver of hope left for Brooklyn in the ninth inning as Jeff Diehl led off with a double and took third on a ground out by

Branden Kaupe , the Cyclones were unable to push the run across and fell by the final score of 8-3.

The Cyclones will look to take the rubber game of the three-game set from the Yankees tomorrow afternoon on Staten Island. RHP Michael Gibbons will take the mound for the Cyclones in his Brooklyn debut. The Cyclones will return to MCU Park to kick off a six-game home stand starting on Monday at 7:00 PM against the Tri-City ValleyCats.
