Norwich Sea Unicorns News Release
NORWICH, CT-The 2015 Connecticut Tigers (0-2) fall for the second consecutive night to the Tri-City ValleyCats (2-0) by the score of 4-0 before 2,423 fans at Dodd Stadium.
With Spenser Watkins (4 IP, 2 R, 0 ER, 4 H, 4 K) on the mound for the Connecticut Tigers, Tri-City picked up right where they left off the night before. In the top of the first inning the ValleyCats pushed across two quick runs to take a 2-0 lead. With one-out third basemen Cesar Carrasco singled in the first run of the game scoring center fielder Johnny Sewald. Two batters later first basemen Bryan Muniz singled home the designated hitter Anthony Hermelyn to cap the first inning scoring.
The ValleyCats would add to their lead in the fourth against the first Tigers reliever of the night Dean Aldridge (2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 0 ER). Catcher Garrett Stubbs started the inning with a bunt single and moved to second on a throwing error. Hermelyn followed with a single to put runners on the corner with nobody out. Carrasco then grounded into a fielders choice scoring Stubbs to make it 3-0. Hermelyn eventually would come around and score on a wild pitch to give Tri-City a 4-0 lead. All four of the Tri-City runs where unearned.
Once again the Connecticut Tigers struggled at the plate as four Tri-City pitchers combined for the shutout. Daniel Paulino (0-1) got the start and went 5 innings allowing just 4 hits. Trent Thornton and Zach Davis each worked two scoreless innings and Adam Whitt pitched a scoreless ninth to complete the shutout.
The Connecticut Tigers are the New York-Penn League affiliate of the Detroit Tigers and play a 76 game schedule that runs from mid June through early September. 2015 season tickets, group tickets, mini plans, individual game tickets, and team merchandise are now on sale!
