BURLINGTON, VT --- Lowell scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning and reliever Daniel Gonzalez tossed five scoreless innings as the Spinners won their second straight game over the Vermont Lake Monsters with a 7-1 New York-Penn League victory on Saturday evening.

Lowell snapped a 1-1 tie with the five runs in the seventh inning, including RBI singles from Mitch Gunsolus, Jordon Austin and a Bryan Hudson two-run single off Lake Monsters reliever Cody Kurz (0-1), who allowed five runs (four earned) on four hits over 1 1/3 innings to take the loss. The Spinners added another run in the ninth of an RBI double from Jeremy Rivera, who was 3-for-4 on the night.

Vermont had taken a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Seong-min Kim scored from third base on a passed ball. The unearned run was the only allowed by Lowell starter Danny Rosenbaum, whogave up just two hits over the first four innings. The Lake Monsters had a chance to cut into the deficit in the eighth inning as they loaded the bases with two outs, but Kim lined out to centerfielder Luis Alexander Basabe to end the threat.

Lake Monsters starter Jonnie Massad, who made 21 relief appearances for Vermont last season, allowed just one run on three hits with two walks and five strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings in his first start of the season. The only run Massad allowed came on a Tucker Tubbs sacrifice fly in the fourth inning that tied the game 1-1.

After beginning the season 0-2 for the second time in three seasons, Vermont will look to get in the win column on Sunday against the Spinners beginning at 5:05 pm as the Lake Monsters celebrate Father's Day at the ballpark.
