-SPIKES CONTINUE UPSTATE NEW YORK TOUR TONIGHT: The State College Spikes begin a six-night, three-city trip through upstate New York tonight with the last of two games against the Batavia Muckdogs at Dwyer Stadium. The Spikes will play two each each in Batavia, Auburn and Jamestown on the road trip, marking just the second time in team history they'll go visit three different teams on the same trip (August 31-September 6, 2009). State College is 33-36 against Batavia all-time, with a 15-18 mark at Dwyer Stadium.

-LAST GAME: Chris Diaz hit his first pro home run last night, and Clay Holmes tossed five scoreless innings on the mound, but it wasn't until the State College Spikes scored two runs on three wild pitches by Batavia in the top of the tenth that they put away a 4-2 win over Muckdogs at Dwyer Stadium. Holmes continued his dominant season on the mound, reducing his ERA to a microscopic 0.83, which still leads the New York-Penn League.

-CREASY GETS MOUND CALL FOR SPIKES: RIght-hander Jason Creasy makes his team-leading tenth start of the year for the Spikes this evening. Creasy went 4 2/3 innings against Hudson Valley in his last outing, yielding one run on four hits and three walks in a no-decision. The Clayton, NC native and 2011 eighth-round draft choice of the PIrates last faced Batavia on July 3. Creasy gave up two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out a season-high six Muckdogs.

-FREEMAN HEADS TO HILL FOR MUCKDOGS: Left-hander Tyler Melling is slated to start for the Muckdogs tonight. Melling has faced the Spikes twice already this season. The Cardinals' 2011 39th-round draft choice has gone a total of 11 2/3 innings with three runs (two earned) against him vs. State College this year. Last time out, Melling took the loss after giving up four runs over five innings in a loss to Tri-City.

-OUCH! GAFFNEY SETTING HBP RECORDS: Tyler Gaffney was hit by two more pitches in Sunday's game, bringing his total to 16 on the season in just 25 games played. Gaffney has already smashed the previous single-season Spikes record of 9. The NYPL record (since the short season was adopted in 1967) is 24, set by Mahoning Valley's Christopher Gimenez in 2004.

-SPIKE MARKS: Jacob Stallings is fifth in the league with 15 doubles, just three shy of the league lead in that stat...Luis Heredia remains ninth in the NYPL with a 2.28 ERA...Pat Ludwig's 0.44 walks per 9 innings (1 in 20 2/3 IP) is the second-lowest mark for any reliever in the loop...The Spikes are 6-3 against the Muckdogs this year, clinching a victory in the season series with their win last night
