Four Jammers Named to All-Star Team

JAMESTOWN, NY--This afternoon four Jamestown Jammers were officially named to the New York-Penn League's 2012 National League All-Star team. Outfielder Jesus Solorzano, outfielder Juancito Martinez, first baseman Viosergy Rosa, and relief pitcher Nick Wittgren.

Solorzano, the Miami Marlins 10th overall prospect according to Marlins.com is second in the New York-Penn League in home runs with eight. He is batting .275 on the season with 23 RBI's and five stolen bases. Solorzano has split time playing all three of the outfield positions for the Jamestown Jammers. He is hitting .316 with runners in scoring position and currently possess an OPS of .810. He also leads the Jammers in RBI's, total bases with 72, and slugging percentage (.483). This is his first season in the New York-Penn League, having spent last season with the Gulf Coast Marlins. This is his second career All-Star selection, last season Solorzano was named as a Gulf Coast League Post-Season All-Star.

Rosa, who is a team leader in many offensive categories is in his second season with the Jamestown Jammers. This season Jammers first baseman Rosa is fifth in the New York-Penn League in on-base percentage with .405, in addition to his top five on-base percentage statistic his .282 batting average leads the Jammers. Rosa is tied for the team lead in doubles with nine, he is third in the league in walks and currently leads the team in walks with 27. Rosa has played in 38 games this season which is three less then he played the entire season last year. Rosa's plate selection this season has been stellar, his patience at the plate has made him look like an entirely different hitter from his performance last season.

Wittgren, a ninth round draft pick by the Miami Marlins in the 2012 MLB Draft has been lights out this season. Wittgren is second in the New York-Penn League in saves with 11. He possess the highest strikeout to walk ratio in the league with 12.17, that is 32 strikeouts in 23 2/3 innings pitched. He is third in the league in games finished and currently is 11-for-11 in save opportunities. His ERA is 1.52 and four of his eleven saves have been two innings.

Martinez, a base stealing threat any time he is on base is tied for fourth in the league with 14 stolen bases. He has three home runs on the season, 12 RBI's, and is second in hits on the Jammers roster with 37. This is Martinez's second All-Star selection, having been previously named in 2009 to the Marlins Dominican Summer League All-Star team.

In addition to four Jammers players being named to the All-Star team the Jammers manager Angel Espada will manage the N.L. team. Espada will be joined by Jammers pitching coach Brendan Sagara, Jammers hitting coach Rich Arena, Jammers trainer Ben Cates, and Jammers strength and conditioning coach A.J. Seeliger.
