-PINCKNEY DIVISION CHAMPION SPIKES START LAST REGULAR SEASON HOME SET: The State College Spikes captured their second consecutive New York-Penn League Pinckney Division title with a victory over the Jamestown Jammers on Saturday, and tonight, they continue their final homestand of the regular season with the first game of a two-game series against the Batavia Muckdogs at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The Spikes became the first NYPL team to clinch a playoff berth with their win on Saturday, and will await their opponent in the NYPL Semifinal Series starting on Wednesday, September 3, with sites and times to be determined. The Spikes are 5-3 against the Muckdogs this year, but the two teams have not met since July 3. Batavia won two of three games from State College at Medlar Field atl Lubrano Park June 17-19. The all-time series is tied, 44-44, and the Spikes are 23-21 at home against the Muckdogs.

-LAST GAME: Brian O'Keefe plated the game's only run with a fifth-inning solo homer as four State College Spikes pitchers combined on the club's second consecutive shutout in a 1-0 win over the Williamsport Crosscutters on Thursday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

With the victory, the Spikes remain one game back of Hudson Valley for the top seed in the New York-Penn League playoffs, and the Pinckney Division champions are one game ahead of Tri-City for the second playoff seed in the four-team format.

O'Keefe's home run off of Williamsport starter Ricardo Pinto on a 1-0 pitch was the first State College hit of the game, and one of just three for the Spikes. Robelys Reyes's double and Jhohan Acevedo's single were the other State College hits.

The Spikes received another stellar pitching effort, though, beginning with starter Daniel Poncedeleon. The right-hander yielded just four hits while striking out seven batters over five innings of work for the win. State College relievers then retired 12 straight batters over the last four frames to complete the victory. Brandon Lee recorded one strikeout over two perfect innings, while Nick Lomascolo registered two whiffs over 1 1/3 innings for his seventh hold of the year.

Kyle Grana struck out the last two hitters of the game to earn the save and increase his strikeout total to 58, which is good for fifth-best in the New York-Penn League.

-NYPL ALL-STAR ANDERSON TOES SLAB FOR SPIKES: Right-hander Will Anderson, one of the Spikes' four selections to the 2014 New York-Penn League All-Star Game, makes his 12th start for the Spikes tonight. Anderson pitched a perfect second inning for the South squad at the All-Star Game on August 19, then gave up three runs on five hits and two walks over six innings of work for the win in State College's division-clinching victory at Jamestown this past Saturday. The 2013 26th-round draft choice of the Cardinals, Anderson is fifth in the NYPL in earned run average with a 2.52 mark, and has 56 strikeouts to just 11 walks over 64 1/3 innings this year.

-MADER MAKES START FOR MUCKDOGS: Left-hander Michael Mader makes his 12th start of the year for Batavia in tonight's game. Mader, who was selected by the Marlins in the supplemental third round of the 2014 MLB Draft out of Chipola (FL) College, faced the Spikes in his professional debut on June 23 at Dwyer Stadium and walked three batters in two no-hit, no-run innings. The southpaw is 1-0 with a 0.85 ERA on the road this year, and has gone exactly five innings in each of his last two starts. Mader allowed three runs on six hits, two walks and a hit batsman while striking out one over five frames against Mahoning Valley on Sunday in his last start.

-STONE NAMED NYPL PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Spikes infielder Jake Stone was honored as the New York-Penn League Player of the Week for the week ending August 24. Stone went 8-for-21 with four doubles, a home run and nine runs batted in from August 18-24, helping propel the Spikes offense as they clinched their second consecutive New York-Penn League Pinckney Division title. The Tennessee Wesleyan product delivered five RBI in the Spikes' pennant-clinching game at Jamestown on Saturday.

-SPIKES, CARDINALS EXTEND PDC THROUGH 2016: The State College Spikes have announced a two-year extension of their Player Development Contract (PDC) with the defending National League champion St. Louis Cardinals. The extension maintains the affiliation between the Spikes and Cardinals through the 2016 New York-Penn League season.

-SPIKE MARKS: The Spikes lead the NYPL in batting average at .266, runs scored at 374, run differential at +121, and home runs at 53, with Tri-City placing second in all but run differential (Hudson Valley +61)...Kyle Grana's 13.62 strikeouts per nine innings are the second-most among NYPL relievers, and his 58 total whiffs are fifth-most in the league...Darren Seferina is now ninth in the NYPL in batting average at .297...Danny Diekroeger's Spikes-record 21-game hitting streak came to an end last night as he went 0-for-4 in the game...Grana and Nick Lomascolo are tied for the most pitching appearances in the NYPL with 26 apiece
