Aberdeen IronBirds News Release

Lowell, MA - For the second straight night, the Aberdeen IronBirds were defeated by the Lowell Spinners, losing 9-0 tonight. The IronBirds have been outscored 22-1 in the two games of this series.

John Means and Aaron Wilkerson, the two starting pitchers, matched each other through the first five innings as each team managed just a couple of base runners through the first five frames.

Lowell struck in the sixth, however. A one out, two run double to left field from Aneudis Peralta gave the Spinners a lead they would not relinquish.

Leading 2-0 entering the seventh, the Spinners blew the game open at the expense of IronBirds' reliever Zach Albin. Lowell got six hits and scored six runs and took an 8-0 lead to the eighth.

The hosts got one more run off of an Aberdeen error in the eighth and took a 9-0 win. That error for the IronBirds snapped a streak of 51.1 innings without committing an error, and it was their first mistake since the first inning of Sunday's game.

In the ninth, new IronBirds Derek Peterson and Nick Merullo got pinch-hit at-bats. Peterson flew out to center and Merullo grounded out to third. Nick is the son of IronBirds' manager Matt and Derek is the son of Orioles' Director of Pitching Development Rick.

Means took the loss for the IronBirds, pitching 5.2 innings, allowing four hits, two runs (both earned), striking out six. He did not walk a batter tonight, and has walked only two all season.

The IronBirds will try and avoid a sweep tomorrow night. Stephen Tarpley gets the start in the IronBirds' final road contest of the season. First pitch from Lowell is set for 7:05 p.m.
