
Tigers Tie Franchise Wins Record

Wappings Falls, NY "" The Connecticut Tigers (39-34) defeated the Hudson Valley Renegades (46-27) by the score of 5-4 at Dutchess Stadium Friday night. In the bottom of the 11th inning with the tying and winning runners in scoring position, Tigers RHP Gabe Hemmer (S, 4) struck out Renegades LF Grant Kay (0-4) to end the game. With the win the Tigers not only matched the franchise win mark of 39 wins that was set in 2011, but they also are now within one game of the Brooklyn Cyclones for the Wild Card after they lost to the Tri-City ValleyCats 3-2 tonight.
The Tigers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after the top of the first inning when 2B Brett Pirtle (1-4) drove in 1B Will Maddox (2-4) to score whom doubled to lead the game off and 3B Joey Pankake's (1-5) RBI single knocked in Pirtle from second base. The Tigers took a page out of the Renegades book from the night before with extra base hits. The Renegades had 11 hits on Thursday night and six of them were for extra bases. The Tigers put together 13 hits in which five of them were for extra bases on Friday. Trailing 4-3 in the top of the seventh inning, Maddox tied the game with an RBI ground out.
Starter RHP Spencer Turnbull pitched three innings while giving up three runs on four hits in a no decision. Turnbull pitched well the first two innings until a he surrendered three runs in the third and last inning he pitched in. In his second relief appearance of the season, RHP Josh Heddinger pitched two shutout innings. After RHP Josh Laxer gave up the Renegades fourth run of the game, RHP Johan Belisario relived him in the seventh inning. Belisario pitched two shutout innings while recording three strikeouts. With his two scoreless innings, Belisario has now extended his streak to 26 consecutive scoreless innings. RHP Joe Jimenez (3-2) picked up his third win of the season as he pitched two shutout innings and also recorded three strikeouts. Jimenez pitched in the 9th and 10th innings.
In the series finale, Tigers RHP Austin Pritcher (6-3, 4.43) is slated to face Renegades RHP Hunter Wood (3-4, 3.34). The pre-game show begins at 6:50 on AM 1310 WICH and cttigers.com.
