-SPIKES LOOK TO SPLIT SERIES VS. AUBURN: The State College Spikes continue a six-game road trip tonight as they face the Auburn Doubledays tonight in the second game of a three-game series between the two teams at Falcon Park. The Spikes will face only PInckney Division opponents for the remainder of the season. Auburn leads the all-time series, 31-27.
-LAST GAME: Wes Freeman's heads-up play resulted in a rare infield double to give the State College Spikes the lead, but the Auburn Doubledays scratched out two late runs to set the Spikes down, 2-1, on Saturday night at Falcon Park. Freeman's double, his tenth of the season, resulted from him taking an extra base when Auburn failed to cover second base after the hit scored Ashley Ponce in the third inning for State College's first and only run of the game. Spikes starter Ryan Hafner produced another strong outing on the mound, as well, retiring the first six batters he faced. Hafner allowed an unearned run on a total of three hits and two walks over his five innings of work.
-JEFFERSON ON THE HILL FOR SPIKES: Left-hander Mike Jefferson gets the ball for State College tonight after his previous start against Connecticut on Sunday was washed out by rain. Jefferson has not allowed an earned run in his last three official starts, going a total of 13 innings in the three outings. The southpaw, a 22nd-round draft choice of the Pirates this year, has a 3.77 ERA in his last five road appearances.
-DOUBLEDAYS SEND DUPRA TO MOUND: Auburn right-hander Brian Dupra gets the ball for the Doubledays tonight in his 11th appearance and sixth start for the club in 2011. Dupra, the Nationals' seventh-round draft pick out of Notre Dame this year, has made one appearance against State College this year, earning a relief victory on July 3 with four scoreless innings on the mound. Dupra is 1-3 with a 2.76 ERA as a starter for Auburn this season.
