Aberdeen IronBirds News Release

Norwich, CT - With the game tied at one in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Aberdeen IronBirds' infield made three errors leading to four Connecticut Tigers runs. That was more than enough for the Tigers as they beat the IronBirds Sunday afternoon, 5-1.

Connecticut jumped on the scoreboard in the first. P.J. Polk reached on an error on Aberdeen third baseman Connor Narron. He stole second and advanced to third on a Dean Green single. IronBirds starting pitcher Angel Cespedes threw a wild pitch, scoring Polk.

That was the only run Cespedes would allow. In five innings, the right-hander surrendered just three hits. He walked none and struck out two.

The IronBirds tied the game in the seventh inning. Adam Davis led the frame off with a single. Dudley Leonora walked and Kyle Hoppy was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. Glynn Davis lifted a sacrifice fly to center, knotting the game at one.

The Tigers took the lead for good in the seventh. Reliever Matt Drummond hit Green with a pitch. Aaron Westlake singled and Jeff Holm reached on a bunt single, loading the bases. With one out, Matt Perry hit a grounder to third. Narron booted it, allowing a run to score. With the bases still loaded, Azcona grounded a ball to Narron. He misplayed it again. Two runs scored. Polk reached on a fielding error by shortstop Mychal Givens, loading the bases again. Eugenio Suarez knocked in a run with a single, making it 5-1.

Jeff Barfield (2-2) pitched three scoreless innings for the win. Drummond (0-3) took the loss.

The IronBirds and the Tigers will meet in the finale of this three-game series Monday evening at Dodd Stadium. The IronBirds will have right-hander Ryan Berry (1-1, 6.61) on the hill. He'll go up against fellow right-hander Luis Sanz (5-4, 3.13). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.

The Aberdeen IronBirds sold out season tickets for the 10thstraight season. Group packages and single-game tickets, however, are still available for the 2011 season. For ticket information, contact our box office at (410) 297-9292 or visit us online at www.IronBirdsbaseball.com.
