Jamestown Jammers News Release
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Josh Hodges hurled a masterpiece over eight innings, and Alfredo Buret slammed the door in the ninth as the Jamestown Jammers snapped their four-game losing streak against Williamsport, 5-1, at Bowman Field Sunday evening.
In a career-long outing, Hodges gave up one run, walked one and fanned three to earn his league- leading seventh win and get the Jammers back to a game under .500 at 30-31.
After falling behind early in the past three games, Jamestown got on the board in the second inning as the ï¬Ârst three batters reached base. Josh Adams and Jobduan Morales had back-to-back singles before Viosergy Rosa roped a RBI double to straightaway center. Pedro Mendoza added a RBI ground out to extend the advantage to two.
In the bottom of the second, Williamsport was able to swing back some momentum with a run of their own. Bob Stumpo drilled a double to center then scored on a Cody Asche single.
After giving up the three hits in the ï¬Ârst, Hodges settled down and allowed just ï¬Âve base runners over the ï¬Ânal seven innings he pitched.
The Jamestown offense also struggled to piece anything together until the eighth inning when the purple and green broke the game open.
Nestor Castillo started the frame with a single then Ryan Goetz sent him to third with a single to left. Austin Barnes followed with the third straight single to make it 3-1. A wild pitch advanced runners to second and third before Brian McConkey plated two runs on a grounder back up the middle.
In the ninth, Williamsport made things interesting as the 'Cutters sent the tying run to the plate with two outs; however, Alfredo Buret induced a force out to end the game.
Goetz and Barnes paced the offense with two hits, including a double, and a run scored. Rosa added his RBI double, while eight of the nine starters had hits for the Jammers.
For Williamsport, Stumpo sparked the offensive attack with a single, double and run scored. Mike Nesseth was the tough-luck loser after giving up two runs in ï¬Âve innings.
The two teams will meet in the rubber match Monday at 7:05 p.m.
