August 21, 2011 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Vermont Lake Monsters News Release
BURLINGTON, VT --- Michael Fabiaschi smacked a grand slam home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to give Vermont a 5-3 lead and the Lake Monsters went on to win their season-high fourth straight game with an 8-3 victory over the Hudson Valley Renegades in New York-Penn League action Sunday afternoon at historic Centennial Field.
The Renegades had just scored three runs in the top of the fifth for a 3-1 lead before Vermont loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning with two outs on a walk, error and a hit batter. Fabiaschi then lined a pitch from Hudson Valley starter Robert Dickmann over the leftfield fence for his first home run of the season.
It was also Vermont's 11th grand slam home run all-time and the Lake Monsters first at Centennial Field since Garrett Bass against State College on July 8, 2007. Along with a third inning solo homer from Diomedes Lopez (his sixth of the season), Vermont has now hit two home runs in a game five times over the last seven games.ÃÂ
The Lake Monsters added three more runs in the sixth on a Dusty Robinson two-run triple down the rightfield line and Xavier Macklin RBI single for an 8-3 lead. Drew Bailey (5-0) allowed two hits and struckout two in 2 1/3 innings of relief for the win, while Nathan Kilcrease closed out the game with one strikeout in two hitless innings.ÃÂ
Dickman (3-2) allowed five runs on three hits with five strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings, but all four runs on the grand slam were unearned. Alejandro Segovia went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Juniel Querecuto 2-for-5 with an RBI for Hudson Valley (29-32).ÃÂ
Lake Monster starter Brent Powers gave up three runs on eight hits over 4 2/3 innings for the no-decision. Vermont (32-28) has now won four straight and seven of its last eight to remain 1 1/2 games in front of the Connecticut Tigers (five straight wins and wins in eight of last nine) for first-place in the Stedler Division.ÃÂ
Vermont hosts Hudson Valley in the final game of the six-game homestand on Monday at 7:05 pm. It is the second 25-cent "Hot Dog Heaven" of the season sponsored by McKenzie's as the Lake Monster try to beat the total of roughly 6,000 hot dogs sold on July 11th.
