-SPIKES CLASH WITH RENEGADES TO START THREE-GAME SET: The State College Spikes get a glimpse of a potentional playoff opponent tonight as they welcome the Hudson Valley Renegades to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park for the first game of a three-game series. The Spikes lead the New York-Penn League Pinckney Division by nine games, while Hudson Valley leads the NYPL McNamara Division by eight games and holds a one-game lead on State College for the best record in the league. The three games comprise the back half of a six-game homestand for the Spikes, as well as the only meetings between State College and Hudson Valley in the regular season. The Renegades swept a three-game series from the Spikes last year at Dutchess Stadium. All-time, State College is 9-14 against Hudson Valley and 4-7 in games played at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

-LAST NIGHT: The State College Spikes built a 4-1 lead, but saw it go away as the Aberdeen IronBirds tied the game in the ninth inning and took a 5-4 win in 10 innings on Friday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

State College scored three runs in the sixth inning to break open a 1-1 tie, with Jhohan Acevedo's single plating a pair. Brian O'Keefe then hustled home to score on Robelys Reyes's foulout sacrifice fly to third base to stake the Spikes to a three-run edge.

Aberdeen responded with Austin Anderson's two-run double in the seventh inning to draw within 4-3. The IronBirds then tied the game back up in the ninth when Jay Gonzalez scored on an error. In the tenth, Riley Palmer led off for Aberdeen with a walk, and scored on Jamill Moquete's triple to left-center field for the eventual game-winning run.

O'Keefe went 2-for-4 with a double to lead the Spikes offense. The State College catcher was also hit by his league-leading tenth pitch of the year. Reyes and Chase Raffield also produced multiple hits for the Spikes.

-PONCEDELEON STARTS SERIES OPENER FOR SPIKES: Right-hander Daniel Poncedelon makes the start for the Spikes evening, his sixth as a professional and his eight overall appearance. Poncedeleon, the Cardinals' ninth-round draft choice this year out of Embry-Riddle University in Florida, hs allowed just two earned runs over his last three outings, totaling 10 2/3 innings. The righty has racked up 19 strikeouts over his last 13 1/3 innings as well, including four in three scoreless innings against Mahoning Valley on Sunday in his last start. The La Mirada, CA native has held left-handed hitters to a .216 average.

-RENEGADES TAP FRANCO TO BEGIN SET: Right-hander Enderson Franco makes his ninth start of the year for Hudson Valley tonight. Franco, a native of Anaco, Venzuela, was selected by the Rays from the Astros in the 2013 Rule 5 Draft, and has put together a spectacular 33-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio this year . Last time out, the righty yielded a run on seven hits while striking out two over five innings in a victory over Vermont. Franco has won his last three starts since taking a loss against Brooklyn on July 8 in a six-inning complete game, and has gone at least five innings in all but one appearance this season. Last year, Franco went 2-5 with a 5.05 ERA in 12 starts at Rookie-level Greenville in the Astros organization.
