Renegades Defeat Spikes 5-2, Improve to 34-15 Overall

State College, PA - The Hudson Valley Renegades defeated the State College Spikes 5-2 on Saturday night, improving to 34-15 overall. With the victory, they maintain the best record in the New York-Penn League by two games over the Tri-City ValleyCats. It was the first meeting this season between the Renegades and Spikes, with both teams currently sitting in first place of their respected divisions. Hudson Valley brings their road record to 15-12, and they are one of just two clubs in the league to reach 15 road wins.

State College got on the board first with two runs in the bottom of the first inning, but did not score again the rest of the way. Hudson Valley scored one run in the third inning, another in the fourth and three in the top of the eighth. They scored their five runs on 12 hits and did not commit a single error on the night.

Ederson Franco got the start and put together another strong outing in his ninth game of the season. After surrendering two runs in the first, the righty recovered terrifically and didn't allow a single run over the next six innings. He brings his record to 5-1 in 2014, with a 3.40 ERA. His five wins are the most on the team, as he's now won in four of his last five outings.

Offensively, Hudson Valley had five players with two hits in the game. Seven out of their nine hitters to take the plate had at least one hit in the game. Braxton Lee continues to be a producer in the leadoff spot, going 2-3 with two walks. Grant Kay, Bralin Jackson and Coty Blanchard all had two hits, and all drove in one run. Jace Conrad finished 2-4 on the night and scored two of his teams five runs.

To cap off the victory, Edgar Gomez pitched the last two innings and recorded his first save of the season. The Long Beach State product surrendered just one hit, struck out two and gave up no runs in his work out of the bullpen.

Notes: Hudson Valley is the first team in the New York-Penn League to reach 34 wins, with nobody else having more than 32. They Lead the Brooklyn Cyclones by eight games in first place of the McNamara Division. With another multi-hit performance from Bralin Jackson, he brings his batting average all the way up to .308. The right-handed hitting outfielder is batting .417 in his last ten games, and in that span has five 2-hit performances and one 3-hit game.
