August 2, 2014 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Norwich Sea Unicorns News Release
Brooklyn, NY "" The Brooklyn Cyclones (26-23) defeated the Connecticut Tigers (26-23) by the score of 8-1 Saturday night at MCU Park. RHP Marcos Molina (5-1) pitched a gem in his fifth win of the year for the Cyclones. Molina gave up one run on five hits and struck out a season high nine batters. After giving up back to back singles to start the game, Molina settled down very well and at one point retired 10 straight Tigers batters.
It was a struggle for the Connecticut offense as their five game winning streak came to an end. The Tigers scored one run in the game that came in the first inning on a wild pitch thrown by Molina. LF Rashad Brown (2-4) had two of the five hits in the game for the Tigers and the only run scored.
Coming to the game the Tigers had the best ERA in the NY-Penn League at 3.10, but the pitching struggled in the loss. Starter RHP Josh Heddinger (0-2) suffered his second loss of the season as he pitched a season low 0.2 innings while giving up three runs on two hits and two walks. RHP Austin Pritcher pitched five innings in relief of Heddinger and gave up five runs on six hits, walked three and struck out two. Cyclones first round draft pick, LF Michael Conforto (1-2) hit his first professional homerun off of Pritcher in the fifth inning which gave Brooklyn a 7-1 lead.
In game two of the series, Tigers RHP AJ Ladwig (0-2, 3.27) is slated to face Cyclones LHP Alberto Baldonado (1-3, 6.94). The pre-game show begins at 4:45 p.m. on AM 1310 WICH and cttigers.com.
