Aberdeen IronBirds News Release

Oh What A Night!

After jumping out to an early 1-0 lead, the Aberdeen IronBirds had to battle back after the State College Spikes had a huge sixth inning, but the visitors took a 5-4, 10 inning win, winning two of three from the Spikes. The game was tied going to the bottom of the sixth when the Spikes scored three off of Aberdeen reliever Luc Rennie, but the IronBirds responded with two in the seventh to make it 4-3. That was the score when, with two outs in the top of the ninth and a runner on second, Alex Murphy hit a bouncer to third, and Ronnierd Garcia threw it away, allowing Jay Gonzalez to score on the error and tie the game. Jamill Moquete mashed an RBI triple to the wall in left center, scoring Riley Palmer in the top of the 10th, and Rennie shut the door in the bottom half of the inning to secure the win.

Rennie Dominant After Rough Inning

Along with the IronBirds offense manufacturing a run in the top of the ninth, Luc Rennie earned his first win of the season as an IronBird. He came on in relief of starter David Hess, who threw four innings and left in a 1-1 game. Rennie allowed three runs in the bottom of the sixth, but then retired 11 Spikes in a row before Alex De Leon reached on an error in the bottom of the tenth. Darren Seferina came in as a pinch runner, and he was promptly picked off of first base on a terrific throw from Alex Murphy after a pitch in the dirt. Rennie earned the win after pitching the final six innings, the longest outing for an Aberdeen reliever this season. He allowed four hits, three runs (all earned and all in the sixth inning), walking one and striking out three.

Anderson, Moquete Come Through for Aberdeen

Austin Anderson continues to do well at the plate. He went 3-3 last night with an intentional walk and a hit-by-pitch. He had two singles and a two run double in the seventh, which got the IronBirds back within a run at 4-3 at the time. Jamill Moquete came up in the tenth inning and hammered a ball to left-center that bounced off the wall at the 410 sign at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Riley Palmer scored on the play, and Aberdeen held on for the win. It was Moquete's 12th RBI of the season.

On the Mound tonight...

LHP John Means gets the start for the IronBirds. He is 0-1 on the season with a 4.97 ERA. He last pitched on Sunday, July 27th at home against the Tri-City ValleyCats, pitching 3.1 innings, allowing four hits and two runs. He will be opposed by RHP David Whitehead.
