-SPIKES LOOK TO STAY HOT AGAINST VERMONT: The State College Spikes, in the midst of their first three-game winning streak of the year after sweeping the Lowell Spinners at home, head to Centennial Field tonight to take on the Vermont Lake Monsters. The Lake Monsters are in their first year as an Oakland Athletics affiliate. State College is 7-6 against Vermont all-time, with a 1-3 record at Centennial Field.

-LAST GAME: Wes Freeman and Matt Skirving each homered as the Spikes withstood an early flurry from the Lowell Spinners to produce a new season-high single-game run total and sweep the series with an 11-8 win on Monday afternoon at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Freeman delivered a solo shot to left field to tie the game, 2-2, in the second inning, while Skirving homered off the top of the Outfield Bleachers in right field to extend the Spikes' lead in the fifth inning. Both players also collected three hits. A five-run third inning gave the Spikes a lead they would not relinquish.

-BENEDICT BRINGING ORDER TO MOUND: Right-hander Matt Benedict gets his ninth start of the year for the Spikes tonight. Benedict allowed one run on four hits, a walk and two hit batsmen over a career-long six innings to earn his second career victory last time out at Tri-City. The PIrates' 30th-round draft pick in 2011 out of Western Carolina, Benedict has a 3.05 road ERA this season, and has allowed a .286 average to both lefties and righties this year.

-LAKE MONSTERS START WITH FRANKOFF: Vermont will go with right-hander Seth Frankoff on the mound for the series opener. Frankoff has taken the loss in each of his last two outings, going five innings against Lowell and four against Williamsport. The Apex, NC native was drafted in the 27th round by the Athletics in 2010, and went 5-5 with a 2.81 ERA last year between the Arizona League Athletics and Short-Season Single-A Vancouver.
