Jamestown Jammers News Release
JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - A wild 12-run eighth inning saw the Jamestown Jammers lose a three-run lead before retaking it to outslug Tri-City, 12-9, at Diethrick Park on Tuesday night.
Jamestown raced out to an early lead and was up 6-1 after the ï¬Âfth inning, but Tri-City struck for two in the seventh and six in the eighth to take a three-run lead. However, Jamestown sent 10 men to the plate, pounded out six hits and scored six runs of their own to get back in front. The Jammers (25-20) are now one game behind Auburn and Mahoning Valley for ï¬Ârst place in the division.
Marquise Cooper paced the Jamestown offense with two hits, including a two-run homer, with four RBI. Kentrell Dewitt chipped in three hits with a triple and three RBI. Jobduan Morales, Austin Barnes and Ryan Goetz each had two hits.
Jamestown jumped out to an early lead after the team loaded the bases on two walks and a single in the second before Cooper bounced into a ï¬Âelder's choice to plate the ï¬Ârst run.
Then, the team tacked on two more runs in the fourth. Jobduan Morales slapped a single to right before Dewitt tripled to right center to make it 2-0. Cooper added a RBI single to extend the lead.
Tri-City scored on a sacriï¬Âce ï¬ây in the ï¬Âfth, but the Jammers responded with three more runs in the bottom of the frame. Goetz singled then scored on a double by Terrence Dayleg. Josh Adams walked then Brian McConkey smoked a line drive to right to move him to third. After Jobduan Morales walked to load the bases, Dewitt had a RBI ground out to score Adams.
In the seventh inning, Tri-City got two runs back on three hits before striking for six in the eighth. The ï¬Ârst six batters reached base before an out was recorded as the ValleyCats pounded out six hits and capitalized on a Jamestown miscue to lead for the ï¬Ârst time.
That advantage was gone before the ValleyCats had a chance to blink. Pedro Mendoza singled to start the eighth then Cooper sent one over the left ï¬Âeld fence to cut the lead to one. Goetz and Barnes had back-to-back singles before the ï¬Ârst out was recorded. Then, Adams snuck one inside the third base line to score both runners and give Jamestown back the lead. He came into score on a throwing error by second baseman Neiko Johnson. Dewitt picked up a RBI single to cap the scoring.
Alfredo Buret slammed the door after a leadoff walk in the ninth inning to snap Jamestown's two-game losing streak and earn his seventh save. Chase Wier earned the win after recording two outs and striking out one.
Ryan McCurdy and Zach Johnson both had two hits with a double for Tri-City, while Andrew Muren, Rafael Valenzuela and Justin Gominsky all had two hits.
The Jammers and ValleyCats will be back in action Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. for Lucy Desi night.
