Brooklyn Cyclones News Release
Brooklyn, NY, August 2, 2011 - The Brooklyn Cyclones are welcoming back one of their own, and it just so happens he has the best win/loss record of any starting pitcher currently on the New York Mets. Dillon Gee, who played for the Cyclones in 2007, will be returning to his old stomping grounds at MCU Park in Coney Island on Thursday, August 4th for a special pre-game ceremony honoring his time with the team. The night will also mark the return of "Social Media Madness", featuring prize giveaways and ticket discounts to Facebook and Twitter fans of the Cyclones.
Four years ago with the Cyclones, Gee ranked sixth in the league with a 2.49 ERA, striking out 56 and walking just nine. He made his Mets debut in September 2010, becoming the first Mets pitcher to record an RBI in his inaugural major league appearance, and started this season with a 7-0 record through his first nine games, the best start by a Mets rookie to open a season in franchise history.
"For the brief time he played for us, Dillon was outstanding on the mound, so it's no great surprise to see him doing so well at Citi Field" said Cyclones General Manager Steve Cohen. "This is our way of honoring how far Dillon has come, while also reminding fans that the stars of tomorrow could be playing right now at MCU Park."
As part of the evening's "Social Media Madness" theme, fans will be able to tweet their seat locations using @BKCyclones to become eligible to win great prizes including autographed memorabilia. One lucky Facebook fan will also have a chance to throw out the ceremonial first pitch before the 7pm game with the Williamsport Crosscutters. The first 3,000 fans in attendance will receive an MCU Blue jersey as part of "Jersday Thursday" and fans of all ages will be able to run the bases after the game.
