-SPIKES FINISH BIG WEEKEND TONIGHT: The State College Spikes, who now hold sole possession of first place in the New York-Penn League Wild Card race thanks to an eight-game winning streak, continue their 10th Season this evening with the back half of a two-game weekend mini-series against their Pinckney Division rivals, the West Virginia Black Bears. The Spikes look to maintain a one-game lead over Lowell, and try and cut into a 4 1/2-game deficit behind Williamsport in the division. Meanwhile, West Virginia sits in fifth place in the Wild Card, 4 1/2 games back. State College is 7-3 against the Black Bears this year, and took two of three games from West Virginia at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park from July 1-3.

-LAST GAME: Down 4-0 after the first inning, the State College Spikes hung tough and came all the way back to defeat the West Virginia Black Bears, 7-5, on Saturday to run their winning streak to eight consecutive games. The win thrilled a record crowd at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, as 6,105 fans filled the ballpark to see the Spikes extend their New York-Penn League Wild Card lead to a full game over Lowell. State College also cut its deficit in the NYPL Pinckney Division race to 4 1/2 games behind Williamsport. Jhohan Acevedo, who knocked in a total of two runs and doubled on the evening, put the Spikes in front in the eighth inning with a sacrifice fly to score pinch-runner Champ Rowland. An errant throw home on the same play then scored pinch-runner Craig Aikin with an insurance run. Pedro Echemendia finished the game with three scoreless innings of relief for the win, matching his longest outing of the year.

-MARTINEZ STARTS FOR SPIKES: State College right-hander Dailyn Martinez gets the ball for his tenth start of 2015 with the Spikes tonight. Martinez earned the win last time out, allowing three runs on nine hits and three walks while striking out three over six innings for a quality start against Mahoning Valley on Monday. The Santiago, Dominican Republic native has delivered a start of six innings or more with three earned runs or less on five occasions this year, including each of his last three outings. Martinez defeated West Virginia on July 3 at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park with six innings of quality work.

-BLACK BEARS GO WITH BRUBAKER: West Virginia will send right-hander Jonathan Brubaker to the mound tonight for his 11th professional start. Brubaker has faced the Spikes twice already this season, going 0-1 with an 8.31 ERA over 8 2/3 innings. The Akron product took the loss on July 3 in State College, then yielded five runs over 3 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Spikes at Monongalia County Ballpark on July 15. After the defeat, though, the 2015 sixth-round draft choice of the Pirates reeled off a 21-inning scoreless streak that was stopped by Williamsport on Tuesday.

-FIVE SPIKES HEADED TO NYPL ALL-STAR GAME: Casey Grayson, Leobaldo Pina, Mike Pritchard, Landon Beck and Juan Perez were all selected to the South roster for the 2015 New York-Penn League All-Star Game, as announced by the league last Saturday. The quintet ties a Spikes record for most players headed to the annual showcase of future stars, last set in 2013. The All-Star Game is set to take place on Tuesday at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium, home of the Aberdeen IronBirds.

-RECORD CROWD SEES SATURDAY'S GAME: The State College Spikes set a single-game attendance record at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park on Saturday as 6,105 fans filled the ballpark for the Spikes' matchup against West Virginia. The record crowd breaks the previous mark of 6,066, set less than a year ago when the Spikes finished their 2014 regular season home slate on August 30 of that year against Batavia. Fans on hand were thrilled by the return of Tim "Wild Thang" Lepard and Team GhostRiders as the Cowboy Monkey Rodeo served as a featured attraction for the night. The one-of-a-kind act delighted the crowd with in-game performances as well as a post-game grand finale.

-SPIKE MARKS: State College's eight-game winning streak is the longest active string in the NYPL, and is just two wins shy of the club record set from August 16-25, 2013...New Spikes infielder Michael Massi made his debut with the team last night as a ninth-inning defensive replacement...Landon Beck is tied with Tyler Badamo, who started on Wednesday for Brooklyn against him, for the second-most strikeouts in the league with 51...Beck has whiffed 24 batters over his last 16 1/3 innings...Pedro Echemendia leads the NYPL with 18 appearances...Casey Grayson is first in the NYPL in on-base percentage at .427, and third in batting average with a .316 mark...Jorge Rodriguez is second in the NYPL in ERA at 2.61
