August 16, 2015 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Williamsport Crosscutters News Release
The Williamsport Crosscutters saw their early 2-0 lead fall by the way side against Mahoning Valley on Sunday afternoon. The Scrappers scored five runs in the fifth inning and wouldn't look back as they picked up the 7-2 win. The Cutters finish the regular season series with a 4-7 record against the Scrappers.
The Crosscutters took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning against Mahoning Valley. Jan Hernandez hit his ninth home run of the season giving him 25 RBI. Franklyn Kilome worked through the first two innings of the game with relative ease but would hit a road block in the fifth inning. With Williamsport leading 2-1, the Scrappers would rally against Kilome to plate four runs to take a 5-2 lead. Anthony Sequeira entered in relief of Kilome but would allow a run to score giving Mahoning Valley a 6-2 lead.
Williamsport would search for an answer offensively in the ensuing innings against the Scrappers bullpen. The Cutters stranded eight baserunners in the game as they went 1 for 5 with runners in scoring position. Feliberto Sanchez worked two innings for the Cutters out of the bullpen. The only blemish for Sanchez would come in the top of the seventh inning as Li-Jen Chu hit his first home run of the season to give the Scrappers a 7-2 lead.
The bottom of the ninth inning would see the Cutters attempt to put together a rally against Ryan Perez. Venn Biter walked to start the inning and would move up to third after Austin Bossart singled with two outs. William Cuicas drew a walk to load the bases but Zach Coppola would ground out to end the game. With his walk Biter extended his on base streak to 14 games as he hitting streak came to an end at 13 games. Williamsport holds the best record in the New York Penn League along with remaining in first place in the Pinckney Division over State College.
