-SPIKES WELCOME CONNECTICUT TO STATE COLLEGE: The State College Spikes begin the second half of a six-game homestand at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park tonight as they play the first game of a three-game series against the Connecticut Tigers. State College is 6-9 against the Tigers all-time stretching back to their time in Oneonta.

-LAST GAME: Wes Freeman collected four hits and Alex Dickerson drove in three runs, but it took Samuel Gonzalez's RBI single in the 10th inning to deliver a walk-off win to the State College Spikes as they clipped the Aberdeen IronBirds, 5-4, on Thursday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Freeman doubled three times as part of his four-hit night, becoming the first Spikes player this season to collect a quartet of base hits. Dickerson added two doubles of his own in the victory.

-BENEDICT GETS THE BALL FOR THE SPIKES: Right-hander Matt Benedict makes his team-leading 11th start for the Spikes tonight. The 30th-round pick of the PIrates in 2011 out of Western Carolina, Benedict went 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision against Jamestown last time out. The righty allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks in the outing.

-CROUSE STARTS SERIES FOR TIGERS: Connecticut left-hander Matt Crouse makes his tenth start of the year tonight. Crouse, the Tigers' 24th-round draft pick in 2011 out of Ole Miss, earned the win against Lowell last time out with five one-run innings. Crouse yielded three hits and three walks while striking out five against the Spinners

-FREEMAN ALSO NAMED TO NYPL ALL-STAR GAME: Spikes outfielder Wes Freeman was named to the 2011 New York-Penn League All-Star Game Thursday. Freeman joins catcher Samuel Gonzalez and outfielder Carlos Mesa have each been named to the National League squad for Tuesday's contest in Lowell. Mesa will not play due to injury.
