State College is 6-9 against the Tigers all-time stretching back to their time in Oneonta.
-LAST GAME: Wes Freeman collected four hits and Alex Dickerson drove in three runs, but it took Samuel Gonzalez's RBI single in the 10th inning to deliver a walk-off win to the State College Spikes as they clipped the Aberdeen IronBirds, 5-4, on Thursday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Freeman doubled three times as part of his four-hit night, becoming the first Spikes player this season to collect a quartet of base hits. Dickerson added two doubles of his own in the victory.
-BENEDICT GETS THE BALL FOR THE SPIKES: Right-hander Matt Benedict makes his team-leading 11th start for the Spikes tonight. The 30th-round pick of the PIrates in 2011 out of Western Carolina, Benedict went 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision against Jamestown last time out. The righty allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks in the outing.
-CROUSE STARTS SERIES FOR TIGERS: Connecticut left-hander Matt Crouse makes his tenth start of the year tonight. Crouse, the Tigers' 24th-round draft pick in 2011 out of Ole Miss, earned the win against Lowell last time out with five one-run innings. Crouse yielded three hits and three walks while striking out five against the Spinners
