Stars up Winning Streak to 14 with Victory over Spurs

SALT LAKE CITY - The Salt Lake City Stars, the official NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, extended their club-long (Salt Lake City era) winning streak to 14 games, tying the second longest single-season winning streak in NBA G League history, per the Elias Sports Bureau.

Seven players scored in double figures for the Stars, led by Utah Jazz two-way player Jarrell Brantley, who finished with a game-high 24 points on 9-of-13 (.692) from the field and 4-of-5 (.800) from beyond the arc. The forward added eight rebounds and five assists in 28 minutes. Jazz two-way player Justin Wright-Foreman tallied 21 points on 9-of-12 (.750) shooting, including a perfect 3-of-3 from beyond the arc. In his first start with the Stars, Paul White recorded a season-high 17 points to go with seven rebounds and three assists. Jazz assignment player Miye Oni (13 points), Malik Benlevi (13 points), Trevon Bluiett (11 points) and Mike Scott (11 points) each added double figures for Salt Lake City.

The Spurs were led by San Antonio Spurs assignment player Chimezie Metu, who finished with 18 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Keldon Johnson, also on assignment from the Spurs, tallied 15 points, six rebounds and two blocks. Dedric Lawson recorded 13 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals, while Galen Robinson Jr. added 12 points and four assists.

Despite San Antonio knocking down the first two points of the game, Salt Lake City ultimately outscored the Spurs 29-18 in the opening period. The Stars continued to build on their lead in the second quarter, taking a 15-point advantage (60-45) at intermission.

Salt Lake City controlled the game in the second half, taking their largest lead of the game, 27 points (121-94), with just 2:36 left to play in the final frame. The Stars outscored the Spurs 67-57 in the half, hitting 11 threes to the Spurs' two.

The Stars posted a season-high 21 three-pointers to outshoot the Spurs 53.8 percent to 18.5 percent from deep. Salt Lake City also shot a season-high 59 percent (49-of-83) from the field to Austin's 46.1 percent (41-of-89).

Salt Lake City tallied more rebounds (49-37), dished out more assists (28-24) and posted more second chance points (16-10), while San Antonio held the advantage in turnovers (12-20), points in the paint (62-48), fast break points (16-4), blocks (4-2) and steals (11-10).

The league-leading Stars will continue their three-game homestand with "Superhero Night presented by America First Credit Union" tomorrow, Dec. 28 against the Austin Spurs (San Antonio Spurs affiliate). The game, which tips off at 7 p.m. (MT) at Vivint Smart Home Arena, will be streamed on NBAGLeague.com.
