Grand Rapids Drive News Release

FORT WAYNE, IN - The Grand Rapids Drive closed out the decade with a conference win over the Mad Ants, tallying a final score of 106-95. The game started off as a back and forth battle, but the Drive took the lead during an impressive second quarter and maintained it throughout the night. The Mad Ants cut a 17-point deficit to just 5 points late in the fourth, but the Drive's ability to connect their shots and aggressive nature on defense allowed the visitors to extend and hold onto the lead in the end.

The Drive played just 8 tonight as Doumbouya and King were up with Detroit and Bone and Hall were out with injury. The smaller lineup didn't stop Grand Rapids from having impressive performances from several individuals. Craig Sword led the Drive with 25 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Big man Adam Woodbury recorded a solid double-double with 19 points on 8-11 shooting from the field to go with 13 rebounds and 2 steals. Todd Withers finished just short of a double-double with 16 points, 9 rebounds and 3 steals. Other Drive players in double figures were Devon Baulkman (13 points), Tre-Shawn Thurman (12 points, 4 rebounds & 3 steals) and Tra-Deon Hollins finished with his own double-double with 10 points, 12 assists, 5 rebounds & 4 steals.

The Mad Ants were led by Pacers two-way player Brian Bowen II with 25 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Walt Lemon Jr. added 22 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds. Ben Moore contributed a double-double for the team with 15 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. C.J. Wilcox put up another 15 points with 6 rebounds and 4 assists.

Ultimately, the Drive's aggressive nature on and off the ball contributed to the road win. The Drive's tenacity on both ends of the court resulted in them out-rebounding the Mad Ants 52-41, with 18-9 being on the offensive end. Additionally, the Drive's ability to manage a fluid offense, which garnered 30 assists, created a diverse stat line for the team. The Drive were also able to hustle up 18 steals compared to 7 for the Mad Ants, which also contributed to the team's success tonight.

The Mad Ants will travel to Washington, DC to take on Capital City on January 3. The Drive will head back home to Grand Rapids to get ready to host the Raptors 905 on January 4. Tip-off for both games are at 7 p.m.
