Stars Top Rampage in Overtime Thriller, 5-4

CEDAR PARK, Texas - The San Antonio Rampage forced overtime with an extra-attacker goal late in regulation, but Devin Shore answered back on a breakaway in the sudden-death frame to lift the Texas Stars to a 5-4 win on Saturday night in front 5,913 at Cedar Park Center to open the 2015-16 regular season.

Stephen Johns sprung Shore on a chip pass from his own end out to center ice and the rookie forward slipped his first of the season past Calvin Pickard 1:44 into the extra frame to win it. Greg Rallo tallied a pair of assists to record the 150th of his AHL career and Curtis McKenzie led the Stars with three points, all helpers.

The Stars hit the road on Friday to visit the Chicago Wolves at 7 p.m. CST.

Texas trailed 3-1 entering the third period, but launched themselves to a 4-3 lead off back-to-back goals by Brendan Ranford at 5:15 and 9:43, and Radek Faksa's second of the game at 11:39. Ben Street scored the tying goal for San Antonio with 1:08 left to knot the score at 4-4.

John Muse earned the win in his Stars debut in net with 33 saves. Pickard finished 23 of 28 in net in the loss for San Antonio.

The Rampage opened up the scoring with a two-goal first period. Andrew Aggozino found a loose puck in front to snap home his first of the season at 3:54 and then Maxim Noreau buried a power play goal from the point at 8:29 to make it a 2-0 score.

Faksa put Texas on the board off a McKenzie centering pass just 25 seconds into the second, but the Rampage reclaimed the two-goal lead off a power play goal by Dennis Everberg at 17:54 to make it 3-1.

Esa Lindell also finished with two assists, and five total players tallied multi-point games for the Texas offense.

Texas went 0-for-2 on the power play and San Antonio finished 2-for-5.
