
Barracuda Get Doubled up in Home Opener with 4-2 Loss to IceHogs

SAN JOSE, CA -The San Jose Barracuda (0-1-0-0, 0pts) presented by Barracuda Networks opened up their AHL regular season schedule with a 4-2 loss to the visiting Rockford IceHogs (1-0-0-0, 2pts) in front of 6,977 fans at the SAP Center on Friday evening.
Micheal Haley (1-1-2) and Bryan Lerg (1-0-1) scored for the Barracuda while Troy Grosenick made 37 saves in net for San Jose in the loss. Rookie Tanner Kero (2-1-3) led the way offensively for Rockford and goaltender Micheal Leighton made 30 saves in net for the victory.
Rockford barreled out to a 2-0 lead in the first period with a quick strike by rookie Tanner Kero (1st) at 1:01 and a shorthanded tally by Dennis Rasmussen (1st) at 14:43. The Barracuda scored their first ever goal on the power play as Micheal Haley (1st) snapped a shot from the slot that slid through the pads of Michael Leighton. San Jose trailed 2-1 after 20 minutes as shots stood 14-13 in favor of the IceHogs.
San Jose tied the game with another power play goal as captain Bryan Lerg (1st) was set up by Mirco Mueller and Micheal Haley at 6:34. Frazer McLaren (1st FM) dropped the mitts with Mike Liambas (1st FM) in a one sided fight won by Frazer at 8:54. Troy Grosenick made 14 second period saves as the two teams headed into the second intermission tied at two.
Rockford scored twice more in the third period to grab the 4-2 road victory. Tanner Karo (2nd) scored the game winner at 4:45 of the third period with a nice deflection in front of Troy Grosenick. Jeremy Morin (1st) added some insurance with Rockford's 4th goal at 8:47. Rockford outshot San Jose 13-9 in the third period.
