San Antonio Rampage News Release
CEDAR PARK, TX (Oct. 10, 2015) - The San Antonio Rampage (0-0-1-0) started the 2015-16 campaign with a 5-4 overtime loss to the Texas Stars (1-0-0-0) in front of 5,913 at the Cedar Park Center on Saturday night. It was the beginning of a new era in San Antonio hockey, as the Rampage kicked off the first season as the top minor league affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche, with whom the Rampage signed a five-year affiliation agreement this spring.
Ben Street led the Rampage with a goal and two assists while Andrew Agozzino, Maxim Noreau and Dennis Everberg all finished with a goal and an assist.
It was all Rampage in the first period with Andrew Agozzino picking up the first goal of the season for San Antonio less than four minutes into the contest. Maxim Noreau scored a power-play goal on Rampage's first opportunity with the man advantage, and the Silver and Black took a 2-0 lead into the intermission. With the secondary assist on Noreau's marker, Agozzino recorded his 100th professional assist.
Texas struck early to start the second frame when Radek Faksa scored just 25 seconds in to get the Stars on the board. San Antonio once again extended their lead to two goals with another power-play goal, this one off the stick of Dennis Everberg, at 17:54.
The Stars scored three unanswered goals in the third period, including two from Brendan Ranford and Faksa's second of the night to give Texas its first lead of the game, 4-3, at 11:39 of the third period. Ben Street potted the equalizer with 1:08 remaining to send the game to overtime, but Devin Shore's tally less than two minutes into the extra frame sealed the win for the Stars.
The Rampage outshot Texas 37-28 and finished 2-for-5 on the power play while holding Texas scoreless on two chances with the man advantage. Calvin Pickard finished with 23 saves on 28 shots.
Notes
Tonight's game marked the first time the Rampage have opened a season on the road since the 2005-06 campaign, as San Antonio has kicked off the last nine seasons at the friendly confines of the AT&T Center. The Rampage are now 8-5-1-0 in season opening games.
Lineup Notes
Ben Street, Agozzino and Everberg played on San Antonio's starting line while Chris Bigras and Mat Clark started as the top defensive pairing. Calvin Pickard made his Rampage debut in goal.
Up Next: The Rampage head to Grand Rapids for a two-game series on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 16 and 17 before returning to the AT&T Center for their home opener against the Stockton Heat on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. Individual and season tickets are available and can be purchased by calling a Rampage representative at 210-444-5554 or online at sarampage.com.
