Stars Too Bright for Wolves in OT

Chicago Wolves News Release

ROSEMONT, Ill.---Right wing Ty Rattie's equalizer late in the third period sent the Chicago Wolves into overtime, but Texas scored 35 seconds into extra time to earn a 3-2 victory Sunday afternoon at Allstate Arena.

Rattie delivered his team-high 24th goal while center Keith Aucoin also scored for Chicago (35-19-5-2). Jake Allen stopped 27 of 30 shots in regulation and overtime as the Wolves suffered back-to-back losses for the first time in two months.

Texas (38-17-3-5), which also defeated the Wolves on Saturday night, pulled into a share of the Western Conference lead with Grand Rapids.

"If we want to play with the big boys, we have to think like the big boys," said Wolves head coach John Anderson. "Not just play like them -- think like them. We can't have 'too many men' penalties. We can't have miscues behind the net. They'll cost you every time."

The Wolves opened the scoring at 7:25 of the first period when left wing Sergey Andronov intercepted a Texas clearing pass in the high slot, froze goaltender Josh Robinson with a slap shot fake and dished the puck to Aucoin waiting alone in the left circle. Aucoin one-timed the pass into the net before Robinson could react.

Texas responded just 47 seconds later when Allen and his defensemen misconnected while transferring possession of the puck behind the net. The puck slid just to the right of the crease and left wing Kevin Henderson banged it home before Allen could get back into position.

Henderson notched his second goal of the day at 13:27 of the second period, moments after the Wolves killed off a Texas power play. As center Taylor Vause skated behind the net with the puck, Henderson sneaked down the slot and one-timed Vause's backhand pass past Allen's stick.

Rattie pulled the Wolves into a 2-2 tie with 3:34 to play in regulation as he camped near the crease, accepted Nathan Longpre's pass from behind the net, and threaded it between Robinson's legs. Alexander Bolduc also earned an assist on the play.

Texas claimed the victory 35 seconds into overtime as Derek Meech attacked the right side of the cage and backhanded a pass in the slot to Mike Hedden, who had an open net to push in the winner.

Jake Allen (26-15-2) lost consecutive games for the first time since Jan. 15 and 17. Robinson (6-6-0) posted 23 saves to pick up the win.

The Wolves host the Rockford IceHogs in an Illinois Lottery Cup game at 7:30 p.m. Friday. To attend the Wolves' ninth Career and Networking Fair on Friday or to save on special ticket deals, call 1-800-THE-WOLVES or visit ChicagoWolves.com.
