Texas Stars News Release
CEDAR PARK, Texas - Phil Desrosiers stopped 34 shots in his second start of the season and Matej Stransky buried a power play goal in overtime to lead the Stars to a 2-1 win on Saturday night over the Ontario Reign in front of 4,512 fans in attendance at H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.
With the win, the Stars (4-3-1-0) swept their weekend pair of games against Ontario (2-1-2-0). Stransky's winner was the lone power play goal in nine chances in the game for Texas. After losing their first seven matchups against the Reign dating back to last season, Texas has now won back-to-back games against their Pacific Division nemesis.
The Stars hit the road on Wednesday against the Tucson Roadrunners at 9:05 p.m. CST.
Travis Morin and Julius Honka set up Stransky for a one-time blast from the left circle just 38 seconds into the overtime period. Texas began the overtime period on a two-man advantage after Ontario's Sean Backman and Vincent LoVerde each took minor penalties in the closing minute of regulation.
Remi Elie opened up the game's scoring with a rebound goal at 14:24 of the first to put Texas on the board. Adrian Kempe snapped home a power play goal just over four minutes into the second for the Reign's only goal on the night.
Honka's assist extends his point streak to six games. Morin, Stransky and Cole Ully also extended their point streaks to five games. Ully tallied as assist on Elie's opening goal.
Jack Flinn suffered the loss in relief after Ontario goaltender Jonah Imoo left the game in the third with an injury. Flinn stopped eight of nine shots. Imoo went 15 of 16 in net.
The Reign outshot Texas, 35-25, and went 1-for-3 on the power play.
Weekday home games (Monday-Thursday) are H-E-B night with the Texas Stars where fans can donate a non-perishable item at the box office and save five dollars on their ticket purchase. Every Saturday is a Texas Lottery Lucky Row Night where the first Stars player to score wins free scratch-off tickets for a lucky row of seats at H-E-B Center. Fans can also enjoy Coke Zero Family Four-Packs every Saturday with four tickets, four hot dogs and four soft drinks starting at just $16 per person.
The Texas Stars are the primary development affiliate of the NHL's Dallas Stars, and are currently playing their eighth season at H-E-B Center at Cedar Park. Full season, 24-game, 12-game and six-game ticket packages for the 2016-17 campaign are on sale now. For more information, call (512) GO-STARS (467-8277) or visit TexasStars.com.
