Game Recap: Sound Tigers 5, Phantoms 4

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - Bracken Kearns scored twice and Josh Ho-Sang recorded his first professional goal to guide the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (4-2-0-0), proud AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders, to a 5-4 win over the Lehigh Valley Phantoms (2-2-1-0) at Webster Bank Arena on Saturday.

Michael Dal Colle and Connor Jones also found the back of the net, while Christopher Gibson (4-0-0-0) made 23 saves to earn the win for the fourth time in as many starts.

Kearns (2g), Ho-Sang (1g, 1a), Dal Colle (1g, 1a) and Jon Landry (2a) each finished the game with multiple points. It was the first professional multi-point games for Dal Colle and Ho-Sang.

The Sound Tigers opened the scoring midway through the first period with a 5-on-3 power-play goal from Kearns. From the low slot, Kearns beat Phantoms' goaltender Alex Lyon high glove side at 12:33 following a short pass from Ho-Sang. It was Kearns' third goal of the season, while Ho-Sang extended his point streak to a career-high, and team-best, five games.

Just over a minute later, Ho-Sang extended Bridgeport's lead with another 5-on-3 power-play goal at 13:36. Landry created the attack when he slid a pass from the right circle to the left side where Ho-Sang slammed home a one-timer for his first pro goal.

The Phantoms cut their deficit in half with a power-play goal of their own from Jordan Weal at 16:22 of the opening period. Following a five-minute major and game misconduct to Kyle Burroughs for kneeing, Weal beat the left leg of Gibson for his second of the season.

Jones continued the high-scoring affair in the middle frame with a breakaway goal created by a pass from his twin brother, Kellen Jones, at 7:52. Kellen flipped the puck ahead to Connor behind the Phantoms' defense who took it to the house and elevated a shot over a sprawled out Lyon.

Just 35 seconds later, Lehigh Valley answered with Weal's second goal of the game, this time at even strength. Weal placed a pin-point wrister over the glove of Gibson, which ricocheted off the post an in at 8:27 of the second.

The Phantoms continued to apply pressure late in the second period and tied the game at the 13:35 mark with another power-play goal, this time from their captain, Colin McDonald. With Landry in the box for interference, Travis Sanheim blasted a shot from the point, which was tipped past Gibson by McDonald.

Kearns put Bridgeport back in front at 6:14 of the third period with his second tally of the night. From the left circle, Kearns intercepted T.J. Brennan's pass in the Phantoms' zone and slipped a shot between Lyon's wickets for his team-leading fourth goal of the season to make it 4-3.

Dal Colle extended Bridgeport's lead to 5-3 with the eventual game-winner at 10:47 of the third frame. Scott Mayfield sent a lead pass to Dal Colle through the neutral zone, creating a 2-on-1 break on the right wing. Dal Colle kept the puck the entire way, with his initial shot getting;
