Iowa Chops News Release
MILWAUKEE, WI - The Iowa Stars made their third trip of the season to the Bradley Center in Milwaukee for a game against the Admirals on Thursday evening. Iowa made their only goal of the game count, posting a 1-0 shutout over the Admirals. The 1-0 win moved Iowa to within three points of the third spot in the West Division and was Iowa's fourth shutout of the season.
Despite out-shooting the Ad's seven to six, including several quality scoring chances, the Stars were unable to find the back of the net in the opening period as both teams skated a scoreless first period.
The Iowa Stars owned the offensive momentum for the majority of the second period, out-shooting the Admirals 12 to two in the middle stanza. Defenseman Mark Ardelan's shot from the blueline sailed over Karl Goehring's right shoulder and found the back of the net for his sixth goal of the season. Ardelan's goal came with a delayed penalty call on Milwaukee and occurred just 1:49 into the middle period. Junior Lessard and Mario Scalzo registered the assists. Iowa Goaltender Dan Ellis only faced two shots in the period but came-up huge when he made a diving save to his right on a John Vigilante shot to preserve the lead.
Ellis was the story of the third period, making 10 saves, including several point-blank shots. Ellis was recognized as the Game's Number One Star for his efforts en-route to his first shutout of the season.
Left Wing Janos Vas had his five-game points-streak snapped. He had four goals and two assists in that span. Thursday's game saw the return of Forward Marty Sertich and Defenseman Matt DeMarchi to the Iowa Stars lineup. Both players had been out of the lineup since the Stars December 31st game.
