Stars fall in overtime

DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Stars suffered a heartbreaking 4-3 overtime loss Tuesday night at Wells Fargo Arena. By virtue of playing into the extra frame, the Stars did manage to obtain a point in the standings.

The Stars cracked the scoreboard mid-way through the first period when Loui Eriksson scored his fifth goal of the season at 10:36. At 9:02 of the second frame, Mathias Tjarnqvist recorded his fifth goal in as many games to give Iowa a 2-0 lead. The Admirals cut the lead in half at 11:39 on Jordin Tootoo's fifth of the season. Assistant Captain Toby Petersen gave the Stars a 3-1 lead heading into the second intermission. Petersen's marker set a new franchise record for most consecutive games registering a point. The Minnesota native has notched three goals and three assists in his last five games.

Milwaukee answered with a goal at 5:18 by Darren Haydar and at 17:13 when Tootoo's slapshot broke-off of Ellis, into the Stars net.

After numerous Stars opportunities that saw Milwaukee goalie Pekka Rinne stand-on-his-head, Shea Weber secured the extra point for Milwaukee, at 4:00 of the extra-frame with his fourth of the year.

The overtime loss was the first time the Stars have lost a game when they lead after two periods: 5-0-1.
