(Rochester, NY)... Rochester Americans General Manager Jody Gage announced today that right wing Chris Thorburn has been returned on loan from the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League. The Amerks also sent left wing Ken Magowan back to the Toledo Storm of the ECHL.

Thorburn played in two games with the Buffalo Sabres after being recalled on December 2nd from Rochester. He made his NHL debut on Friday against the San Jose Sharks and also played on Sunday in Buffalo's 6-4 win over the Colorado Avalanche. In the victory, Thorburn earned his first NHL point/assist.

Thorburn has eight goals and nine assists in 21 games with the Amerks this season. He currently ranks second on the Amerks with 50 penalty minutes. It was the first recall of his career for the 6-3, 220-pound native of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Thorburn was the Buffalo Sabres' second-round selection (50th overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.

Magowan, 24, played in both games this weekend at Manitoba, recording one assist in his Amerks debut Friday night. He returns to the Toledo Storm of the ECHL. The native of Kelowna, British Columbia, recorded nine goals and nine assists in 13 games with the Storm. He recently returned to Toledo after a four-game stint with the Philadelphia Phantoms of the AHL. Magowan was a seventh-round selection (198th overall) by the New Jersey Devils in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.

Rochester hosts the Houston Aeros Friday at 7:35 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial. The Aeros have a record of 17-7-1-1 through 26 games, good for 36 points and the top spot in the AHL's always-competitive West Division. The contest will be televised tape delayed on Saturday, December 10th at 12:30 p.m. on Time Warner Cable Channel 98. The game will also be broadcast on WHTK 1280-AM and webcast on whtk.com. In addition, the game is available to on-line viewers on the B2 Networks for a $6.00 fee.

The contest is the first of two between the two clubs and the only visit to Rochester by the Aeros this season. Houston leads the all-time series with a record of 4-1-3. Rochester defenseman David Cullen plays against his former team, with whom he won a Calder Cup in 2003. The first 5,000 fans will receive the next card in the Amerks' 50th Anniversary Team set, Gordie Clark and Doug Gibson, courtesy of Chase-Pitkin. Both players were inducted into the Amerks Hall of Fame in 1989.

On Saturday, December 10th, the Amerks hit the road to battle the Binghamton Senators (7-13-2-1, 17 points) for the third of eight times this season. The game is a 7:05 p.m. start at the Broome County Arena. Rochester has won the first two meetings against the Sens this season. The game will be broadcast on WHTK 1280-AM and webcast on whtk.com. On Sunday, December 11th, Rochester travels to Toronto to face the Marlies at 5:00 p.m. at Ricoh Coliseum. The Marlies (10-12-0-0, 20 points) enter the week tied for fifth place in the North Division. The game against the Amerks will be broadcast on WHTK 1280-AM and webcast on whtk.com. The contest is also available to on-line viewers on the B2 Networks for a $6.00 fee.

Matt Hendricks and the Moose to visit library: Rochester Americans forward Matt Hendricks and the Amerks Moose will visit the Highland Branch Library on Wednesday, December 7th at 3:00 p.m. Matt will read to kids and teach them about the game of hockey at the library, which is located at 971 South Ave. The Moose and Matt will then sign autographs and raffle Amerks tickets and autographed items. The Rochester Americans Hockey Team and the public libraries in Monroe County have united to sponsor a reading program, Reading Power Play. The program consists of both a series of Amerks player appearances at participating libraries and a reading program and contest for youth. The trip the Highland Branch Library is the fourth installment of the program.

Amerks and Sabres meet in Alumni Game: The Rochester Americans Alumni will host the Buffalo Sabres Alumni in a charity hockey game on Saturday, December 10th at 7:00 p.m. at the ESL Sports Centre on the campus of Monroe Community College. The event is presented by QCI Asset management. General admission tickets are $7.00 for adults and $5.00 for kids 12 and under. All the proceeds go to benefit Golisano Children's Hospital. For ticket information call 273-5948. Amerk stars of the past include Jody Gage, Craig Charron, Jim Wiemer, Ray Maluta, Scott Metcalfe and Dane Jackson. The Sabres Alumni team includes Larry Playfair, Grant Ledyard and Rob Ray. The Amerks mascot, The Moose, and the Buffalo Sabres mascot, Sabretooth, will also entertain the crowd that evening.
