Iowa Chops News Release
DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Stars and Omaha Knights met for their final regular season meeting at Wells Fargo Arena Saturday night. Iowa was unable to hold on to the lead and fell 3-2 in a shootout in front of their largest crowd in team history, 8,842 fans.
For the twelfth consecutive time and twenty-sixth time overall, the Stars registered the maiden-marker of the game. Defenseman Dan Jancevski put the Stars ahead at 8:15 of the first period. It was the fourth goal of the season for Iowa's Captain. Kyle Brodziak's assist has him with two goals and three assists in his last three games: 3(2/3/5). Omaha's Cam Seversen tied the game at one five minutes later with his 10th goal of the season.
Iowa's Loui Eriksson scored his fourth goal in three games to give the Stars a 2-1 lead entering the second intermission. However, a bouncing puck off the stick of Justin Taylor found the back of Dan Ellis' net, tying the score at two goals apiece with just under four-minutes left in regulation.
After a scoreless five-minute sudden-death overtime period, the two teams went to a five-player shootout. Dan Ellis stopped the first shot, while Vojtech Polak scored on his opportunity. Omaha evened the shootout score at one and then took the lead with a shootout goal by Mark Giordano. Omaha goalie Brent Krahn denied Iowa on their remaining four opportunities.
The loss was just the second loss at home by Iowa when they entered the third period with a lead (11-1-1-1). They are now 17-2-1-1 overall when they have a lead after two periods.
Goaltender Dan Ellis made 32 saves in the shootout loss.
Attendance was 8,842. Power-play chances: IOWA: 1 for 5; OMAHA: 2 for 5
