Rudkowsky Lifts Sound Tigers To 3-2 Win

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - Cody Rudkowsky made 29 saves on 31 shots and earned first star honors for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, anchoring his team to a 3-2 win over the Phantoms on Saturday night at the Arena at Harbor Yard.
The Sound Tigers took a quick 2-0 lead, scoring on two of their first three shots over the opening seven minutes. Sean Bergenheim struck first at the 4:46 mark, taking a drop pass from Robert Nillson and walking down the slot before firing a shot past the stick side of Phantoms starter Jamie Storr for the 1-0 lead.
Less than three minutes later, at the 7:08 mark, Bruno Gervais made it a 2-0 game with a power play tally. His wrister from the slot was Bridgeport's third shot of the game and ended Storr's night early, as he yielded to rookie Martin Houle.
The Phantoms settled down from there and cut into the deficit early in the second period when Ryan Ready converted on the power play. Ready was coming into the zone with Matt Ellison, who centered it from the right corner. Ready's one-timer beat Ruskowsky to make it a 2-1 game.
Late in the period, Bridgeport picked up the eventual game-winner when David Masse scored with just 2.2 seconds remaining. Marc Cavosie scored his second of the year at the 13:07 mark of the third period off a setup from Charlie Cook, but the Phantoms could get no closer.
Philadelphia outshot Bridgeport 31-20 on the night, while Houle finished the relief appearance with 16 saves on the 17 shots he faced. Ready earned the game's third star.
The Phantoms continue their weekend road trip Sunday afternoon in Providence at 4:05. The game will be carried on the B2 Networks at www.phantomshockey.com with Mike Thornton's play-by-play call.
