Abbotsford Heat News Release
Des Moines, IA - The Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights won their second shootout game of the season, beating the Iowa Stars 3-2 on Saturday night at Wells Fargo Arena. The Knights battled back from a 2-1 deficit in the third period to send the game to the shootout.
The Stars struck first less than ten minutes into the game. Dan Jancevski took a shot from the right point that popped up in the air and arced over Brent Krahn into the net.
The Knights tied the game on the powerplay. Justin Taylor won a face-off in the left wing corner and threw the puck in front to Cam Severson. Dan Ellis stopped his first shot, but Severson persisted and knocked in the rebound to tie the game at one.
Iowa grabbed the lead back on their third powerplay of the game. Toby Petersen carried the puck behind the goal line and then slid a pass in front to Loui Eriksson. He slammed home his 14th goal of the year to give the Stars a 2-1 lead after two.
The Knights got another powerplay late in the third period, and they made it pay off. Ellis stopped Tomi Maki's shot but the rebound came to Taylor who slipped in his eleventh goal of the year to tie the game at two.
The two teams skated scoreless through overtime. That set up the shootout. Iowa's Vojtech Polak scored first but the Knights got goals from Richie Regehr and Mark Giordano to take a 2-1 lead. Krahn then stopped Yan Stastny in the last shootout round to help the Knights earn the extra standings point.
The Knights are now 18-22-1-7. They return home tomorrow to host the Peoria Rivermen at 5:00 p.m. Tickets for the game will go on sale at the Civic box office beginning at noon. The game can be heard on 1420 KOTK and on the internet at omahaaksarbenknights.com. The games can also be watched on-line by clicking on the link to the B2 Networks on the Knights' home page.
