Cleveland Barons News Release

CLEVELAND, OH -- Ryane Clowe's two-goal performance wasn't enough for the Barons who were defeated 4-2 by the Milwaukee Admirals on Saturday night. Pekka Rinne earned his 21st win of the year for Milwaukee with a 40-save performance.

Just they did on Friday, the Admirals scored the game's opening tally as part of a 2-0 lead through twenty minutes of action. The opening period featured feisty physical play and a combined 24-penalty minutes. Scottie Upshall, reassigned by Nashville yesterday tallied his 11th goal of the year on a breakaway for the 1-0 advantage 15:52 into the period. Rich Peverly, the hero in last night's game with the game-winning tally, scored his fifth of the season for a 2-0 advantage. Milwaukee's leading scorer Darren Haydar assisted on both goals extending his point streak to 10-games. The Barons failed to score on four separate power play chances and out-shot Milwaukee 11-7 in the period.

The Barons Ryane Clowe scored twice in the second period trimming the Milwaukee lead to 3-2 after forty minutes of play. The Admirals struck first extending their lead to 3-0 with a goal mouth scramble goal from Upshall. The Barons answered late in the period with Clowe scoring his seventh and eighth of the season. The first from Clowe came while the Barons were short-handed at the 13:19 mark of the middle frame. Clowe then banged home a rebound with less than three minutes to go. The teams settled down taking just one minor penalty minute aside during the period.

The Barons comeback bid fell short as Milwaukee scored the only third period goal en route to a 4-2 win and a sweep of the weekend games. Greg Classen's tally came while the Admirals were on the power play providing insurance. AHL All-Star Pekka Rinne played a phenomenal game in goal for Milwaukee with 40-saves on the night.

Tonight marks the third of a nine game home stand for the Barons, their longest in franchise history. With the mid-season all-star game this week, both teams will be off until next Friday night. The Barons will host Syracuse on Friday night before welcoming the Peoria Rivermen to town for a 1 O'clock matinee game on Saturday. Tickets for the weekend are on sale now at the Quicken Loans Arena Box Office.
