Iowa Chops News Release

The Iowa Stars had their three game win streak snapped as the Hamilton Bulldogs extended their win streak to four games with a 4-2 victory at Wells Fargo Arena on Tuesday night.

The Hamilton Bulldogs got on the scoreboard first with a power play goal at 1:39 into the first period by Matt D'Agostini with assist to Mikhail Grabovski and Daniel Corso. Iowa Stars goaltender Tobias Stephan finished the period strong, turning away 18 shots on goal.

The Bulldogs struck again in the second with goals at 4:40 and 5:41 in the period scored by Eric Manlow and D'Agostini with his second of the night. Meanwhile the Stars struggled to get shots on goal while allowing Hamilton another 15 to their 20 total.

The Stars were unable to take advantage of a 5-on-3 power play that came midway through the 2nd period. Hamilton's penalty kill percentage was 5th in the league heading into tonight's game, and they remained perfect as Iowa went 0-for-8 on the power play.

But, the Stars would finally find the back of the net at 5:34 in the third when Marty Sertich netted a rebounded shot from Trevor Byrne that bounced off a Bulldog defender. The second assist went to Nolan Baumgartner.

The Bulldogs regained the three point advantage just three minutes later on a goal from Matthieu Biron with assists to Mikhail Grabovski, his third of the night, and Cory Locke. The Stars pulled to within two when BJ Crombeen took a shot off a pass from Tommy Wandell who won the face off in the zone.

That would be the last gasp for the Stars in a third period where they were finally able to edge the Bulldogs in shots on goal at 16-11. All in all the two teams combined for 79 shots on goal with Iowa finishing up with 36 and Hamilton 43.
