Carolina Returns Forward Jensen To Albany

ALBANY, NY - The Albany River Rats announced today that center Joe Jensen has been returned on loan to Albany by the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League.

Jensen, 24, was called up to the Hurricanes in the early hours of Monday morning and he made his NHL yesterday afternoon against the New Jersey Devils at the Prudential Center in Newark. The Maple Grove, Minnesota native played 7:37 of ice time in his debut as Carolina suffered a 4-1 defeat to the Devils. Jensen has appeared in six games for the River Rats since being acquired by Carolina in a trade with Pittsburgh on January 31st that sent center Dave Gove to the Penguins. In his second year as a pro, Jensen has played in 59 career AHL games and 37 career ECHL games, putting him just four games shy of his 100th career pro game.

Jensen played four years of Division I college hockey at St. Cloud State University of the WCHA, appearing in 153 career NCAA games for the Huskies. He scored 100 points (45 goals, 55 assists) and had 100 penalty minutes in his collegiate career. Jensen was drafted by Pittsburgh in the eighth round (232nd overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

Next up for the River Rats is a Wednesday, February 20th trip to Rochester and a 7:05 pm face off against the Americans at Blue Cross Arena. Albany's next home game is slated for Friday, February 22nd at the Times Union Center as they host the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at 7:00 pm.
