STAR to shine at Wings Stadium
January 11, 2005 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Kalamazoo, MI- Wings Stadium, which is also home to "The Annex" and "The Cube", announce that Serving The American Rinks (STAR) will be holding training courses at the complex Monday, July 11th-Thursday, July 14th.
STAR is a membership association that provides education, training, and new resources to the rink and arena industry.
Created as a joint venture between USA Hockey and the United States Figure Skating Association in 2000, more than 500 facilities, individuals and vendors have benefited from a STAR membership.
"We are excited to be hosting the training courses," said Vice President/General Manager Paul L. Pickard. "To be selected as a host site is an honor and a privilege. It also reflects all the hard work that our staff has put into the facility."
STAR will be hosting courses in Ice Maintenance and Equipment Operation (IMEO) and Basic Refrigeration (BF).
With many participants outside of the area attending the courses, the STAR classes will have a sizeable impact on the economy. Area restaurants and hotels should be the most effected; however, all retailers should feel a positive trickle down effect from the spending from those coming to Wings Stadium from the classes.
Stadium Management Company owns both Wings Stadium Complex and the Kalamazoo Wings hockey team. Wings Stadium Complex is comprised of three main buildings. Wings Stadium seats more than 5,100 fans for K-Wings home games and more than 8,000 people for concerts and other stage events. The Annex seats 1,367 for ice events and 2,850 for non-ice events such as car, boat, and trade shows. The Cube is the newer of the facilities that plays host to both ice and non-ice events. All three buildings are available for rental and feature numerous catering and meeting opportunities.
