'Dogs continue seven-game homestand this week

The Richmond RiverDogs are now 18-19-2 after going 1-3 last week. The ‘Dogs are fourth in the Eastern Division, one point back of Elmira with two games in hand. The ‘Dogs are home Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday to continue a seven game homestand this week.

THE WEEK AHEAD (ALL TIMES EASTERN)

Wednesday, January 12 vs. Danbury 7:35 PM GAME NOTES: The ninth of 17 meetings and the fifth of nine in Richmond. ‘Dogs are 3-5 vs. the Trashers, 2-2 at home. David Hymovitz has eight points vs. Danbury. Doug Christiansen and Jeff Daw have eight vs. Richmond. The Trashers are averaging nearly 43 shots a game vs. Richmond.

Friday, January 14 vs. Adirondack 7:35 PM GAME NOTES: The 11th of 17 meetings and the fourth of nine at Richmond. ‘Dogs are 5-4-1 vs. the Frostbite, 2-1 at home. Mark Turner has 15 points vs. the Frostbite. Justin Kelly has 15 points vs. the ‘Dogs. Frostbite has held the ‘Dogs to an average of 26.5 shots per game.

Saturday, January 15 vs. Adirondack 7:35 PM GAME NOTES: The 12th of 17 meetings and the fifth of nine at Richmond. The sixth of seven straight games vs. Eastern Division opponents. Second of three games in three nights road trip for the Frostbite. The fourth set of back to back meetings vs. Adirondack (Richmond is 4-1-1 in back to backs vs. Frostbite.

Wednesday, January 5 vs. Muskegon LOSS 5-3 GAME NOTES: The defending Colonial Cup champs jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second period led by Brant Blackned (goal and three assists) and Robin Bouchard (two goals and an assist). The ‘Dogs rallied back with a goal late in the second period and two in the third.

Friday, January 7 @ Elmira LOSS 6-3 GAME NOTES: The ‘Dogs had a 3-2 second period lead collapse under the weight of a five point night from Greg Koehler (goal and four assists). Jackals scored three times in the third period. Jamie Thompson had two goals for the Jackals. Elmira scored twice on the power play.

Saturday, January 8 @ Adirondack LOSS 6-3 GAME NOTES: Adirondack blew a tie game open with a four goal third period. Six different Frostbite scored goals. Mike Dombkiewicz had a "Gordie Howe" hat trick for Richmond. Dombkiewicz had a goal and two assists. The ‘Dogs were 2-2 on the power play.

Sunday, January 9 vs. Elmira WIN 1-0 (SO) GAME NOTES: The ‘Dogs Nathan Grobins earned the shutout with 29 saves. Richmond won despite taking only 19 shots. Greg Hewitt kept the ‘Dogs off the scoreboard in regulation. Mark Turner and David Brosseau scored for the ‘Dogs in the shootout, while Grobins stopped four of five Jackals.

DOG BITES: Nathan Grobins notched a shutout in his debut in net for the 'Dogs vs. Elmira Sunday. It was the 'Dogs first shutout of the season. That was Richmond's second 1-0 shootout win in club history. The 'Dogs ended a club record five game loosing streak with that win. Richmond is 5-0 when held to under 20 shots on goal. The 'Dogs played their third game in three nights and fourth in five Sunday following a 15.5 hour bus ride from Adirondack. Richmond arrived home at 2:30 for the 5 PM game. The 'Dogs were blanked in regulation Sunday for the second time this season. Richmond is one game into a seven game homestand. Richmond finished a run of seven games in 10 days Sunday. The 'Dogs are 8-1-2 in one goal games. The 'Dogs played with a full bench Sunday for the first time in eight games. Mike Dombkiewicz had the club's second "Gordie Howe" hat trick of the season (goal, assist, fight) Saturday at Adirondack. Ryan McIntosh run of eight straight starts in net ended Sunday. The 'Dogs added Grobins and rookie Brett Cross to the lineup Sunday from Winston-Salem of the SPHL. Trevor Senn and J.J. Wrobel remain on IR. Domkiewicz six game scoring streak ended Sunday. The ‘Dogs allowed 25 goals in four games prior to their shutout win Sunday. The ‘Dogs released goaltender Jeff Sanger following Sunday's game. David Hymovitz is tied for 14th in the league in scoring. Mark Turner is tied for 18th in points. He is tied for second in the league in shorthanded goals. Senn is still second in penalty minutes. Kyle Sheen leads UHL rookies in penalty minutes and is second in game-winning-goals by a rookie.
