Game Rewind
Kalamazoo started their tour of the state of Missouri on Wednesday (1/5) against the Missouri River Otters. The K-Wings started the game's scoring in the opening period, when Tyler Willis (7) deflected a pass past Missouri's Kevin Reiter 9:58 into the period to give the K-Wings a 1-0 lead. Kalamazoo extended their lead to 2-0 later in the period on a goal from Sean Starke (9). The River Otters cut the K-Wings lead in half, when Mat Snesrud scored his sixth goal of the year 12:20 into the second period to make the score 2-1 in favor of the K-Wings. In the final stanza, the K-Wings added to their lead with an unassisted goal from Kevin Kotyluk (8). Missouri answered back with two goals in the final two minutes of regulation of play to force the game into a shootout. In the extra session, the K-Wings would prevail as Tim Turner scored the lone shootout goal leading the K-Wings to a 4-3 shootout victory.
The two teams would hook up again on Friday (1/7). This time all 60 minutes belonged to the K-Wings. Kalamazoo scored the game's first three goals and never looked back, as they defeated the Otters 3-1. Chad Alban stopped 24 of 25 shots to earn his 16th win of the season. The victory also extended the K-Wings winning streak to four games.
On Saturday (1/8), the K-Wings were off to Kansas City to play the first of two games against the Outlaws. Kalamazoo continued to have diversified scoring, as six different players scored goals in the K-Wings 6-1 victory. Daniel Carriere led the K-Wings assault recording three points (1 goal, 2 assists) in the winning effort.
The K-Wings would make it four in a row in the "Show Me" state with their 4-2 victory over Outlaws on Sunday (1/9). Kevin Kotyluk and Tyler Willis each had 2 points in the victory. The win extended the K-Wings overall winning streak to a season high six games, as well as rising their road winning streak to franchise tying five games.
Fast Forward
The K-Wings will hit the ice three times this week. Kalamazoo starts the week on Wednesday (1/12) with a trip to Moline, Illinois to play the Quad City Mallards. The visit to The Mark of the Quad Cities will conclude the K-Wings six-game road swing. The K-Wings are currently 5-0-0 on the road trip. The game against the Mallards will be the second of the year between the teams and the first at Quad City. Kalamazoo defeated the Mallards 6-2 back on December 22nd at Wings Stadium.
Kalamazoo continues the week on Friday (1/14), as the K-Wings start a four game home stand against the Elmira Jackals. The K-Wings are 1-0-1 against the Jackals this season, which includes a 5-3 victory at Wings Stadium on November 6th. Friday will be Vegas Getaway Night presented by WKFR. A lucky fan will win a trip to Las Vegas courtesy of Spirit Airlines and the Paris Hotel and Casino.
The K-Wings concluded the week on Saturday (1/15), as the K-Wings host the Motor City Mechanics. This season, Kalamazoo is 2-0-0 against Motor City; however, both of those games where played at Fraser, Michigan. Saturday's game coincides with WKFR I Love the 80's and Win-Win Night. Fans are encouraged to dress in their 80's garb. Also, if the K-Wings win all fans in attendance will receive a coupon for a FREE ticket to the K-Wings game on January 19th versus Port Huron.
Reeds Reaches Milestone
With the K-Wings victory on Saturday, Head Coach Mark Reeds reached a personal milestone. The win was the 350th victory for Reeds as a Head Coach.
All-Star Bound
For the second straight season, the Kalamazoo Wings will send two players in the UHL All-Star Classic. Both Daniel Carriere and Greg Labenski will make their first-ever UHL All-Star Appearance during this season's 2005 Pepsi All-Star Classic.
Keep On Winning
The K-Wings start the week on a six game winning streak. The six-game streak is a season high for the Kalamazoo Wings.
Road Warriors
The K-Wings have won five straight games away from Wings Stadium. The five game streak ties the K-Wings UHL record for consecutive road wins. Kalamazoo originally set the record 1/21/01-2/7/01.
The Obscure Stat of the Week
The K-Wings have dominated their opposition when they lead after two periods of play. On the season, the K-Wings are an impressive 15-1-2 when they leading heading into the third period. Lifetime, the K-Wings are 141-7-12 when they lead after two periods of play.
