Stampede Fall Late to RGV

Boise, Idaho (February 28, 2015) - The Stampede fell to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers 130-119 after heading into the fourth quarter with the lead. Jerrelle Benimon led the way with 24 points, 15 rebounds and eight assists.

Both teams shot over 50 percent from the field in a back and forth game that saw 11 lead changes. Benimon knocked down a 3-pointer from Tre Bussey followed by a Jermaine Taylor steal and lay-up to end the third quarter and give Idaho the momentum and a 89-86 lead.

Stampede guard Shane Gibson started the fourth off with a 3-pointer of his own, handing the Stampede a six-point advantage. Vipers guard Jarvis Threatt took over from there, posting 12 points and seven assists in the final quarter and pulling Rio Grande Valley ahead for good.

Benimon recorded his 17th double-double and 10th game where he led Idaho in assists this season. Joel Wright was perfect from the free-throw line (10-10) on his way to 24 points off the bench. Utah Jazz guard Ian Clark posted 20 points and knocked down four 3-pointers in his first start with the Stampede.

Rio Grande Valley received 25 points from Tony Bishop and Chris Johnson each while Clint Capela added 15 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks while on assignment from the Houston Rockets.

The Stampede travel to Santa Cruz next weekend for a double-header with the Warriors on March 6 and 7.
