Jam Backcourt Leads the Way in Victory over D-Fenders

BAKERSFIELD, CA - Joe Jackson scored 24 points (18/18 FTs) and backcourt-mate Jerel McNeal added 23 points and eight assists, leading the Bakersfield Jam (26-11) to a 126-122 win over the visiting Los Angeles D-Fenders (11-26) on Friday night.

Bakersfield ended the opening quarter shooting 60.0 percent from the field, compared to Los Angeles' 42.1 percent, and held a 27-20 advantage. After building their lead to as many as 16 points midway through the second period, the Jam struggled late in the quarter and their double-digit lead was cut to four points at the half (64-60).

The second half saw the score tied nine times with eight lead changes, as both teams battled for every possession. With a 94-89 lead entering the final frame, Bakersfield stretched their lead to 12 points (107-95) at the 9:01 mark. The D-fenders would fight back and go on a 14-2 run to tie the game up at 109. With the game knotted up at 119, Jamil Wilson converted a three-point play and gave Bakersfield a 122-119 lead. In the final seconds of the game, Jackson hit clutch free-throws to seal the Jam victory.

Renaldo Major and Alec Brown each tallied 16 points off the bench for the Jam. Jamil Wilson recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Casey Prather (13) and Mac Koshwal (11) also scored in double-figures.

The D-Fenders were led by Vander Blue (32 points, 7 assists) and Jamaal Franklin (22 points, 7 assists). Roscoe Smith had 19 points and nine rebounds.

Both team face each other again tomorrow in Los Angeles at 6:30 p.m. PT.
