Texas Legends News Release
FRISCO, TX, (Feb. 28, 2015) - The Texas Legends dropped their second matchup to the Austin Spurs Saturday night in a heartbreaking final second loss in front of their home crowd. The Spurs battled back from a 17-point deficit to grab a 100-97 victory behind a 28-point effort from Spurs assignee Kyle Anderson. Despite the loss, the Legends hold the lead on the season series 3-2 with two remaining battles.
The Legends took off to a 14-point advantage in the first quarter with seven of the eight active players lighting up the scoreboard. The Spurs managed to close the gap to two before the start of the second, but their efforts proved fruitless in the second. The Legends held Austin to 16 points on 36% shooting to take a 60-43 lead into halftime.
Texas maintained control through all but the fourth quarter, with just three lead changes in the game all falling in the final nine minutes. Anderson put up 10 points in the third as the Spurs whittled away at the double-digit deficit. The fourth quarter began with just a four-point overhead for the Legends, and within minutes the Spurs found their first lead of the night. William Buford responded moments later to put the Legends back on top. Texas carried that lead into the final seconds but a three-pointer from Anderson with .9 seconds on the clock put the necessary finish on the night. The Legends set up the final play, fighting for overtime, but were unable to connect for their fourth straight defeat.
Mike James led the Legends with another double-double of 24 points, 11 assists. Legends newcomer Jarrid Famous also added a double-double in his first game with the team knocking down 14 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
Anderson led the Spurs with 28 points while Keith Wright added the team's only double-double of 12 points, 18 rebounds.
The Legends will hit the road next week taking on the Santa Cruz Warriors March 4 at 9pm CT. Fans can catch all the action live on www.TexLegends.com.
