BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Stampede defeated the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, 102-92, Saturday night at CenturyLink Arena.
Idaho took the lead in the first quarter, shooting 61.9 percent from the field, outscoring Rio Grande Valley 32-26. The Stampede maintained a 57-52 advantage at the half despite the Vipers shooting 52.9 percent from the field in the second frame. Rio Grande Valley took control in the third period, leading Idaho by as many as 11 points. Idaho fought back in the final quarter outscoring Rio Grande Valley 30-12 to secure the win.
"Our offense in the first half was as good as it's ever been," said Stampede Head Coach Dean Cooper. "I was very proud of the defensive effort in the fourth quarter. We were able to hold the Vipers to 12 points and showed a lot of resolve."
The Stampede were paced by JJ O'Brien who recorded a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Brandon Fields registered a game-high 25 points and six assists, while Utah Jazz assignee Tibor Pleiss added 15 points and seven rebounds. Jeremy Williams registered 10 points and eight rebounds, and Treveon Graham recorded 12 points and eight rebounds as a reserve.
The Vipers were led by Raphiael Putney (19 points and five rebounds) and Will Cummings (14 points and three assists). Jaron Johnson registered 12 points, while Denzel Livingston recorded 12 points and seven rebounds. Houston Rockets assignee Sam Dekker recorded six points and four rebounds in 15 minutes off the bench.
Next up, Idaho will travel to California to take on the Bakersfield Jam on Friday, Feb. 26 at 8 p.m.
