Austin Spurs Top Oklahoma City Blue in Double-Overtime Thriller

CEDAR PARK, Texas - Deshaun Thomas (24 points, season-high 12 rebounds) and Youssou Ndoye (11 points, 14 rebounds) each recorded a double-double as the Austin Spurs held off the Oklahoma City Blue 96-94 in double overtime on Saturday night in the second of back-to-back games at Cedar Park Center.

Ndoye also recorded a season-high six blocks. Demetri McCamey contributed 22 points for Austin, and Orlando Johnson added 17 in his return to the team following his GATORADE Call-Up with the Phoenix Suns.

Oklahoma City Thunder assignee Mitch McGary recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Blue. Marquis Teague contributed a team-high 23 points.

Both teams came out ready to play, with neither team leading by more than three in the beginning seven minutes of the game. Ndoye hit the boards strong early, grabbing seven rebounds for Austin in the first quarter. Oklahoma City's 10-0 run put them up 18-9 at the four-minute mark, and they finished the first with a lead of 24-16.

Dakari Johnson paced Oklahoma City in the second quarter, scoring all seven points of a 7-2 run over a three-minute stretch. For Austin, Thomas led all scorers with eight points. Oklahoma City was able to protect their lead for the entire second quarter, up by as many as 15 with two minutes left until halftime. They ended the half up by 10, 48-38.

Austin tried to close the gap early in the second half, going on a 6-0 run that narrowed Oklahoma City's lead to three, 53-50, with seven minutes left in the third quarter. Oklahoma City maintained control of the game though, holding onto their lead for another quarter. Despite only being outscored by four points (22-18), Austin trailed 70-56 at the end of the quarter.

Fighting back hard in the fourth, Austin went on a 10-3 run to turn their 14-point deficit into one (79-78) with five minutes remaining in the game. They took their first lead since the first quarter when Keifer Sykes made a free throw to put the team up 81-80 with 2:29 left to play. The score was tied at 84 with one minute remaining, and with each team scoreless in the final minute, the game headed into overtime.

After back-and-forth scoring, Oklahoma City took the lead 89-86 with 16 seconds left. Austin called a timeout and ran an inbounds play that resulted in a drained 3-pointer by McCamey with a foul, tying the score at 89. McCamey made the free throw, and Austin led by one, 90-89. With just six seconds remaining, Thomas fouled McGary, who made one-of-two free throws, tying the score at 90 and sending the game into double overtime.

Neither team scored in the first minute of double overtime, but just under the two-minute mark, Thomas made a field goal to give Austin the lead, 92-90. The game was tied at 94 with 19 seconds remaining, when Orlando Johnson drove to the hoop, making a layup that put Austin up 96-94 with 1.5 seconds left and secured the win.
