Maine Celtics News Release
Newark, DE - The Maine Red Claws, presented by Unum, scorched the Delaware 87ers in the first half and cruised to their season-best sixth straight victory Saturday night, 132-107. The Red Claws (20-13) have not lost a game in February, and have won 7 of 8, all without the assistance of a player on assignment from the Boston Celtics.
Four Red Claws players finished with more than 20 points on the night. Coty Clarke and Levi Randolph led the charge with 23 points each, Corey Walden added a career-high 22 points, and Omari Johnson poured in 21 points in the win. Malcolm Miller added 18 points and 7 rebounds, and Andre Stringer added 12 points in the win.
The Red Claws started the game on absolute fire, shooting 73% in the first quarter (11-15), with Clarke, Miller and Johnson leading the charge. Maine opened up a 22-9 advantage. Delaware tried to stay in the game, but when the dust settled, the Claws had a 38-22 lead at the end of the quarter. In the second period, the Claws made their first 8 shots; Maine started the game 19 for 23 (83%) from the field. Maine went on a 6-0 run, with Clarke dropping in a four-point play. Still, the Sevens stayed close in the quarter, but Maine had a 74-53 advantage at the half.
Maine slowed down slightly in the 3rd quarter, with Delaware out-scoring the Claws 30-28 in the period. Randolph put in key buckets late in the quarter, with Miller and Johnson hitting crucial three pointers. The Claws never took their foot off the gas, coasting to the easy victory as Clarke, Johnson, Randolph and Walden all surpassed 20+ points in the 4th quarter. The Red Claws finished shooting 56% for the game (43-77) from the floor and 42% (11-26) from beyond the arc. This is the first game that the Red Claws failed to attempt more three pointers than their opponent; both Maine and Delaware finished with 26 three point attempts.
Sean Kilpatrick led Delaware (17-18) with 29 points on 11-22 shooting. The Sevens shot 47% (41-88) on the game, but just 27% (7-26) from downtown. Maine's three best scoring performances of the season have all come at Delaware, including a franchise record 147 points on Feb. 5.
The Red Claws head to Grand Rapids Monday, before returning home Thursday to face Delaware again, this time at the Portland Expo. The homestand continues Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 27-28, against Sioux Falls. Tickets are on sale now by calling 207-210-6655 or visiting MaineRedClaws.com.
