Fort Wayne Komets News Release
Fort Wayne, IN - The Komets announced today that veteran goaltender Kevin St. Pierre and rookie forward Michael Wiggins have agreed to terms and been added to the Fort Wayne roster for 2005-06.
St. Pierre, 30, will be appearing in his 3rd season with the Komets and 11th as a pro. Last year St. Pierre posted a 29-11-3 record, 4 shutouts, a 2.30 goals-against average and a .922 save percentage in 46 games played. "Kevin St. Pierre is one of the top goaltenders in the UHL," Komet vice president and general manager David Franke said. "We are fortunate to have his experience and top flight ability as our number 1 goaltender."
In 2003-04 the veteran goaltender was named UHL MVP for the season and UHL Best Goaltender of the year while leading the Komets to their 2nd consecutive Tarry Cup Championship. In 2003-04 with the Komets he set new team records of 8 shutouts (Fort Wayne franchise record and a new UHL record), 58 games, 43 wins, a .923 save percentage and a 1.98 goals-against average. St. Pierre has earned the UHL Goaltender of the Week award 10 times during the last 2 seasons in Fort Wayne.
Wiggins, 25, appeared in 6 Komet games last season (2g, 5pts, 6 pim) after completing 3 seasons of play at the University of Wisconsin-Superior in the NCAA. "Michael Wiggins performed very well for us in the 6 games he played at the end of last season," Franke said. "He has good hands and goes to the net. He will be a valuable rookie addition to the club."
The addition of St. Pierre and Wiggings brings the Komet's 2005-06 roster to 5 players. Troy Neumeier, P.C. Drouin and Danny Stewart were announced last week.
